    Replacing t-stat gasket

I posted this question in a larger question earlier today but here it is again. I had to check my t-stat this weekend when my SN started to overheat. The old gasket was cemented on both sides. When I replaced it, after carefully cleaning both surfaces i didn't use any gasket cement. During instalation I ripped the new gasket so I have to install another gasket next weekend. Should I use gasket cement when i install the new one? Do I use cement on both sides of the gasket?

    Thanks.

    No, you shouldn't need any.

You might also consider gasket cement to hold the gasket on one side, so you do not damage the next one.

I'm with Hollywood, it's not very hard to install and you shouldn't need any cement.
How 'bout a little reverse action...

Instead of gasket cement, 3M all purpose spray adhesive works well to hold gaskets in place while youre tightening the bolts. I used this on all my gaskets.

Your don't need to use sealant with the gasket. Having said that I always use a thin layer of the blue sealant (3M) to hold the gasket in place. By thin I mean spread on like glue just enough to hold it down. I then use the same amount on the top. The gasket is really enough but you have had to do it twice now and I would bet you don't want to do it again. The sealant will noe harm the gasket.

There is little to no chance of being able to reuse a paper gasket once you've smeared that crap all over it.

I agree with Hollywoods comment about reuse. However what is your time worth. I would never reuse a $2.00 gasket at the expense of having to do it all over again if it leaked.
