Pen marks on seat

Anyone have any ideas on how to get pen marks out without hurting the upholstery? :evil:

G&T vinyl finish cleaner should do it, if not your cc manual should have info on it.

In our Nautique manual, it says to first use denatured alcohol, rinse, and dry. Then use Meguires Quick Clean #52. To be honest, I'd try using a Magic Eraser first....it should do the trick.

I second the magic eraser. However remember it will take some of the protection off the vinyl make sure you use 303 protectant or another. Also ban pens in the boat.

Yes, pens are now expressly banned in the boat. Unbeknownst to me (but now I knownst) pen was in my buddy's back pocket when he was helping me replace the starter. Marks all over one of the side panels now. Didn't notice at the time as we started at dusk and it took a little longer than expected. Woke up this morning, saw the pen marks, changed my pants, and then calmed down. Not the end of the world, but very, very frustrating. Hard to get to mad at a guy who always willingly helps work on my stuff and usually dos a great job. (i know the post says seat, but actually it was the side panel).

We used to use Aqua Net to get it off of computer monitors and keyboards in my refurb shop years ago. Not sure if you can still get, but old fashioned hairspray always did the job. I second the ban pens rule. Have never allowed them in my boat.

Ok, got the pen marks out for the most part with Master Seal ink and lipstick remover. Now, my guess is I removed some of the protective coating. What do you guys suggest to seal it back up?

jj, the products you used do not sound strong enough to do any removal of the protective finish (gas could have been a problem). especially if you rinsed it off. OF

Just curious guys - the protective coating doesn't really seem to do much. I use Fantastic to clean the upholstery and it has a very grippy feel to it. Then apply 303 and it all feels good. However, someone steps with a little dirt on their feet and whoalla the dirt is back in the grooves. Has anyone ever tried to wax the upholstery to fill in the crevices to avoid the dirt getting in there? I know the crevices are not big, and they help against getting hot, but I hate having white when it gets a little grey from the dirt - any other suggestions?

Fantastik is NOT recommended for the vinyl in Nautiques. They changed their formula for Fantastik a few years ago, and now CC no longer recommends it. Maybe that ate through your protective layer?

Nautique Jeff - your one of my goto guys because you have a ton of experience but I am really confused on this Fantastik cleaner issue. I bought my boat a year old and I am confident that whatever was done by the youth group owners removed all protective coating. It's been like this since the day I bought it so that makes me feel a little better. However my dealer continues to push the Fantastik (original, not heavy duty and not scented) so I don't know what to use. I haven't looked in my manual either so I feel a little guilty here. Does CC recommend a cleaner? Does your upholstery do the what I am referring to?
