Where is your PP Master module located?

Well the Fed X guy just left a nice little box at my house from Canada. I have installed 2 PP's before but they were in DD closed bow boats. Where is the Master Module located on an open bow? I have a 99 Sport, and havent poked around to much, so I am not sure what is accessable and what isnt. Any info would be great.

    Thanks
    Jeff

In my last boat, a PS 205 open bow, I had it mounted on the kick plate. If you are using it as digital pro, depending on how the under bow storage is set up, it can be difficult to get the smart timer routed. I ultimately went under the gunwhales around the back, which required a smart timer extension cable. If you go this route, let me know and I'd be happy to send you the cable if you pick up the shipping.

For the Ski Nautique/Sport Nautique, the paddle wheel is installed just off the centerline (port side) there should be a picture in the instructions of the mounting location.

Follow up. From the manual ...

"The 2-inch hole is placed approximately 6--7 inches (16--18 cm) perpendicular to the centerline of an inboard ski boat, beside the drain plug under the engine. Never install behind a strake, depth sounder, etc. Normally this is on the passenger side away from the bilge pump and other cables, etc. Ensure there is sufficient room to pull the inner paddlewheel assembly from the housing when it is mounted under the engine. In this area of the bottom of the hull, there is normally a flat surface away from the turbulence of the tracking fins and lifting strakes. The hole saw is used to cut the hole for the paddlewheel working from the bottom of the boat. (You may wish to drill a pilot hole with a drill bit from the inside to make it easier to locate from underneath)."

Well it wasnt a good Perfect pass day. I have the linkage as shown, and I have a surging idle. It also seems stiffer then it used to be. I worked for an hour or more trying to smooth it out, with no luck. I cant explain the surging idle (650-1000rpms), my linkage is just as shown in the photos. This is the second PP I have installed the first worked flawlessly.

I gave up on fixing the surge, and tried to set some baselines, when I lost most of my throttle, opened the cover and the PP servo knob is dangling by the thread. The set screw in the knob is gone. What gives, some blue 242 lock tite would prevent this from ever happening. I am really disapointed. Luckley, one of my other ski friends that was out with us has an additional knob for some reason. I am going to steal his set screw, and ask PP to send me another.

Any ideas on the surging idle? There is no space or gap in the linkage.

I lost my servo knob once after I first had PP installed on my last boat. Fortunately, I did not lose the screw. Scary feeling.

Well I have the PP knob replaced, and have run the boat thru the course and set up most of the usual speeds. I made my first pass thru the course, and I was really surprised at how well it skied, considering how huge this boat is compared to my old 99' ski. The wake at 34.2 is nice. It really tracks well also, I think I may like this dual purpose boat, (family outings and skiing). I am still not quite satisfied with the throttle engagement since the installation of PP though...any thoughts?

How's the tension in the throttle cable. When you turn the key, is the knob winding tight every time?

I watched it wind up tight a couple of times yesterday. I am going to double check where the throttle and shifter cable come thru the floor that I didnt get them in a bind while running my PP wires. If that doesnt fix it then I really dont know where else to look.

When you say throttle engagement, do you mean that PP isn't locking speed in or is overshooting? If so, check your return spring. The manual suggests this in the troubleshooting section.

If it just doesn't feel like it did before, I think you're on the right track in following the calbe installation to see if it is bound anywhere.

By the way, these are all Holiday Inn Express answers, but fairly well informed ones.

                            Good luck.

Its engaging as it should, its putting it in gear. It used to be quite easy, you felt the bump or what ever you want to describe it as, and then it slid into gear. Now its a big push to get over the bump and into gear. It just doesnt feel smooth and easy like it should.
