    Transmission noise

Just had our first some rides with our 1997 SuperSport and really like the wake (compared to our upgrade 1988 Nautique). It was also our first time with a V-drive and we noticed that you can hear the tranny (or v-drive) quit good. Is this normal? In our d-drive we only heard the engine, but with this boat you hear 60% engine and 40% tranny/v-drive (approx).

    Thanks

You will hear it a little bit more. One thing to check is your fluid levels in the vdrive and the transmission. If they are low, they will whine.
    Enjoy the new boat!

I checked them, the fluids are 3/4-full (engine and v-drive checked when cold, transmission when warm) and brand new. The dealer did a service before delivering the boat.

I'm the original owner of a 97 ski nautique and the transmission has whinned since day 1. After several trips to the dealer, I concluded long ago that's just the noise it makes.

If you think it is loud now, then try driving it with the rear seat removed. I drove my SANTE withe the entire rear seat removed, and that was unbearable as loud as the engine and tranny were. Once you put the seat in, it really helps to cut down the noise, but you can still hear the tranny since it is in front of the engine. I am sure if the engine was turned around the "right" way it would be a lot quieter, but the engine would be louder. My neibor has a BU DD, and he said our boat is much quieter than his, so everything is relative.

            Thanks!
The noise is not unbearable, but it's noticeble. When driving at slow speeds the v-drive/tranny are more in the forground then the engine. When at boarding speed the engine - tranny noise is about 60% - 40%. So I should get used to it...
