    starter

on a 2005 SAN, can the starter solenoid be replaced or does the whole starter need to be replaced? When cranking the key to the far right to start the motor i hear a single 'click' and then about 3 sec of silence then the starter starts cranking.

Check to see if the solinoid is working. Get a voltage meter, one side of the solinoid should read 12 volts, the other side, nothing. Get someone to turn the key to start position while checking the side with no voltage. Should read 12-13 volts, if not, solinoid is bad. Can also be sticking, which would cause the 2-3 sec delay.

Don't know if solinoid is a marine item, but betting it is.

Sounds like a low-voltage scenario to me.
