I have a 96 sport it runs at idle but when i take off the boat just dies. I think it is electrical since it does not sputter before it dies it just goes dead. Then it will not start back up. I have already bipassed the lanyard and i thought it might be the neutral safety switch but it was not.

Sounds like a fuel problem. Usually it will sputter or miss before just dying if its electrical. To test it get a can of starter fluid after it dies spray a 1 sec burst into the throttle body. If it starts to run for a few seconds then dies its fuel; if not it will be spark. Do you know if you have the protec ignition. If so you should search for it and its problems on the site. Good luck.Nautiqueless in San Diego

Fuse by the battery a definite suspect. Low pressure fuel pumps commonly fail
as well (Napa part number P4594). Bad gas? A possibility. You could run an auxillary gas tank with fresh fuel to eliminate bad gas as a possibility. Finally, be sure to check fuel filter.
If carbureted, you might have a failing accelerator pump. 1996 probably didn't have Protec Ignition, but if your boat does it is a ticking time bomb. Lots of possibilities?!?
Good luck!
