    Changing Tranny Fluid

I was out on the lake yesterday and was going to change my tranny fluid on my SN. I bought a little hand pump with about a 1/2" diameter hose attached. When I pulled the dipstick, I noticed that the dipstick hole has an opening about 1", but the hole where the fluid is measured from the dipstick is only about 1/4" wide. Is that the hole I need to get down into to pump out the old oil? Do I just need a smaller hose?

    Thanks,

yes thats how most people drain. There is also a 7mm allen head drainplug on the bottom.

Good luck getting to it, though. I wouldnt even bother- assuming youre a contortionist and could reach the plug, theres no guarantee its not frozen (I couldnt take mine out even when I removed my tranny). Even if its not frozen, it would make a big mess in the bilge when you drain the fluid.

Just suck it up through the dipstick hole.

A 1/4" OD tube fits perfectly in the smaller hole. Make sure you insert it straight down. If it goes off to the side, it could get caught in another hole and get stuck in the tranny. Dont ask me how I know.

After looking a little more, I found that the pump kit came with the smaller diameter tubing.

Some post say they could only get about 1-1/2 tp 1-3/4 quarts out when using the pump. To my suprise, I was able to pump out a little over two quarts??

A little over two quarts is about right. Check the oil level after you put new oil back in.
