Problems with the digital display on the 2004 SAN RPM gauge

We have been having intermitant problems with the digital display on our 2004 SAN team edition RPM gauge.

Whilst the gauge is operating, generally while driving, the display will drop out and will remain blank. To get the display back the engine and display has to powered down and restarted and then it will run as normal.

ON the odd ocasion the same time the dispaly drops out the warning buzzer will sound. The buzzer will continue to sound until the restart to the dash has been made.

The engine does not go into limp mode and all engine other indicators show normal operation.

This may not be related to the problem, but may provide further information to the problem. We have also noticed that the Low pressure oil warning indication on the display will ocassionally display during start up of the engine. The independent gauge indicating oil pressure reads OK.

Any assistance will be appreciated. Unfortunatly we are in Australia with the boat and do not have a dealer that can help us. Cheers Matt

More than likely it is a bad gauge but I think there are a couple of guys on this board that can do better job of helping you out!

      Display issue

I'd be interested in hearing about this too. I noticed on Sunday during a start up of my boat a "low" reading on the digiital display. It went away as soon as the boat started. Everything read normal after that.

Sometimes I wonder if we don't get too fancy with our toys. All those cool read outs are nice if they are reliable and don't throw you a curve now and then. In fact, my skiing buddy was giving me a hard time about all the bells and whistles on my 206--his question was, do such read outs make the skiing experience better or are they just "bling bling".

      Good question.

If it's not the gauge then it's going to be the gateway box mounted on the inside transom. I think SN is right tho because the gateway can not turn off the gauge, however, the gauge will only display the information sent from the gateway. This could be both gauge and gateway, but your dealer shouldn't have any trouble finding the problem.

The only thing I can think of for you to check is the connection at the motor. It can be found under the cover, it's a gray wire with a lage black plug connected to it. Check to see if it's plugged in tight.

SYG... LOW is a battery reading, if you have extra electrical items installed sometime when you start your boat the drain on the battery is just enough to make the gateway throw a low voltage at you. If it goes away right after the boat starts I would say everything is fine with your system.

To answer your friends question, it wont make you a better skier or wakeboarder but it's good information to have at times.

SGY -what read low? did it flash "low psi" or "low voltage" or what? The lcd readout is very accurate and will read things much more better than the analog gauges. The information that is provided through those gauges is very useful. The warning system actually works if you are overheating or if you had a low oil pressure, etc.
No these gauges will not make you a better skier but these features give you options. You can get a signature edition if you wanted to but then put the 330 hp engine in with the nicer steering wheel and throttle knob if you wanted to. They could even put a limited sticker on the side even though you have the analog gauges. That is the nice thing - you can personalize the boat any which way you want.

Mattoz - I would go inside of the engine compartment and find the faria box to make sure that everything is plugged in well and then pull up the dash pod and make sure your connections are good there. If all is well there, you either have a bad gauge or possibly a bad box. If you don't have a dealer near you and need some phone numbers to get some help, let me know.

After I went through and checked the connections ( unpluging and plugging back in) , the fault has not raised its ugly head again...they were all clean, the gauge output plug was in tight for some reason....hmmmm
