I have a heater in my 98SS that was disconnected by the previous owner due to a leaky core. He then discarded the hardware. I am going to buy new hardware and have already replaced the core. My question is has anyone installed the Y fitting that you can get from SkiDim for increased heat at idle? If so did it help?

RE: heater question and y fitting installation
Is your 98 an EFI model? I don't have the Y fitting and I've never had a problem with heat at any RPM. My heater does great at idle without it.

RE: heater question and y fitting installation
Our heater came factory, but I've changed it with the Y-fitting in the return line. We also us another heater-exchanger in series of the heater core for LPG conversion and the difference is really noticeble! At idle and at any RPM a perfect heat for the heater and the heat-exchanger for the LPG will not freezes at long idling.
Well worth the money in my opinion. Even heatercraft recommend it.230 with ZR6 running on propane

RE: heater question and y fitting installation
I installed the Y fitting on my 99' ski. I did it when I installed the heater, so I had nothing to compare it to. Dan at heatercraft told me when I purchased it, that they basically tested it mostly with CC's and would recomend it to anyone installing a heater in a CC. It also makes the heater install very easy in a GT-40.2005 Ski Nautique 206 SE, Acme 422, PP SG 8.0, ND Tower

RE: heater question and y fitting installation
Since I dont have any engine connections where did you install it. All I have is hoses hanging so I am starting from scratch and dont have any instructions. I was going to order the Y fitting skidim, but dont know what else to buy in the way of connections. Do you still tap into the side of the block, or keep the tap at the temp sending unit? The instructions on Skidim show to install it before the raw water pump with the barb pointing to the intake. Is that right? I am assuming the increase in flow comes from the raw water pump pulling the water through the heater? Thanks.

RE: heater question and y fitting installation
I did it myself on our previous boat with GT40.
The pick up is at the temperature sensor on top of the block. Just make a T-connection where you also can install the T-sensor onto.
The return is the Y-adapter, before the raw water pump. This is the easiest install in my opinion, and it gets the hottest water with the best circuilation flow.
Not a lot of work, if you at it; install some ball valves between the pickup and return line. This way you can compleetly shut of the water flow in the summer, or when the core is leak.230 with ZR6 running on propane

RE: Re: RE: heater question and y fitting installation
Its does state in the downloadable instructions from Heatercrafts website that you should use a 160 degree stat. My father in laws 99 super air had a heater and I only used it once so I had really no reference to go by. He unfortunately sold it shortly after buying it because my mother in law could not stand how loud the python was. I cried the day that boat left the corral.2001 Super Air Nautique
