    Cover Support

Anyone have a good idea to prop up the boat cover between the engine and transom of a 196?? I was gone for a couple of days and it rained while I was gone, I had to bail out about 10 gallons of water that was pooled up in that area.

    go46-

I used one of those pole/strap combos that you can pick up from just about any marine supply place. As long as you adjust the pole so enought tension is put on the cover, it stays put pretty well. This is what I'm talking about.

A lot of people whip something up out of PVC pipe.

I am going to make something out of PVC pipe, I was just hoping someone had a good design already.

search on www.wakeworld.com, www.wakeboarder.com and even the malibu boat owners site (URL?). I seem to remember waaaay back someone posting pics of what they built from PVC.

Levi- I have seen those pics, but that design won't work with my 196 because it doesn't have the rear grab handles.

Take the basic front from the Malibu support. Then T it to two pieces that frame 3 sides of a square with the 2 legs with adapters like the front. Fit them into the 2 cup holders on the back of the engine compartment.I think that should give you support you need.

Go46, I have one of these mounted just behind the engine cover. I like being able to insert the pole once the cover is on and tied down. You always get a tight fit because it is adjustable once the cover is on.
                  Overton's have them. Part # 24734 for $26.99

                    Breck,
You can put those poles on through the top? So you first put the cover on and then insert the poles?

yes, and the part that mounts on the cover is very easy to install (5 min.) and can be placed exacly where you wont it.

I have a dark blue cover and in the summer in Indiana my pvc pipe bends to the point of uselessness. Time for plan B

Larger diameter pipe, and use CPVC. This is the cream colored stuff made for hot water. It should hold up to the heat better.

July. I am using 1" schedule 80 pipe now with good results so far this summer. Last summer the 1" schedule 40 pipe also bent due to the heat build up underneath the blue sunbrella cover.
August. The schedule 80 pipe bent due to the heat. I am now trying 3/4" EMT piping (thinwall electrical pipe) inside the 1" schedule 40 PVC pipe.

How about a strap run from lift ring to lift ring? If you're cover is tight enough, that should work fine.
