    which impeller for 89 Sport?

I've got a 89 Sport with PCM engine...when I went to West Marine last week they looked up the part number and gave me the appropriate impellor. Well it's the wrong one.

The impellor I need has a little notch cut out to fit the shaft on the wheel. the one they gave me was like a octagon shape, and also looke dlike it had too few paddles (whatever they're called)

Could someone set me straight, need to get this changed out this weekend.

What brand of raw water pump do you have? See if it is a Sherwood G21. My '93 Sport with the 351 ProBoss has the G21. If your is the same you need Sherwood impeller part #9959. Look at this article and see if it matches the photos. This is a G21 Sherwood.

    Hope this helps.

yeah, that definitely looks the same (from what I remember) the pics sure look like what I've got. I don't know all the specs on the engine...guess I should get the info off the block tag and check it out.

Mine had a gasket that was sort of shaped like a rounded tri-angle, with holes that matched up with where the bolts went that held the cover on.

The impellor I bought had a similar part but a different shape. I assume any new kit I buy will have the appropriate gasket.

I'll write down the pump numbers you gave me and head back to the marine shop this week.

Now if I can only get the starter to fire every time (consensus on here is that its the solonoid...a more confusing fix for me) I'll be in business.

Oh yeah, have to check the blower and add a second battery. guess I've still got some work ahead.

You are correct, sir. Get a new solenoid. Exactly what mine did before the new solenoid. Nothing more frusrating than checking the battery in the driveway and getting to the ramp and not turning over. ****, I hated that! Also, pay very close attention to those photos for the proper intall of the pump. It CAN be put on upside down and you'll overheat in a heartbeat. How do I know? Don't ask, okay? The impeller kit will come with a new flat gasket and a new o-ring. Use a little dishwashing soap on the inner surface of the pump when you put it back together so the impeller doesn't start dry and scuff off the smooth new surface on the vanes. If they have 2 kits, grab an extra so you can install it at the start of next season and keep the old one as a spare for emergency use. Cheap insurance against a $3-4k engine job. Let us know how it turns out. Hope this helps.

the sherwood part number is 9959k if you ever have to cross reference it to another brand like sierra or aqua power.
