I dont remeber exactly what they charged, but it was reasonable. I made them a pattern, so if they kept it you should be good to go. It was really wide 5-6" or so on the ends and about 2" in the center and it lined up perfect with the first full plank closest to the transom. Let me know if you get one, I need to either pick one up or find a piece of teak to make one myself.

I'll do it. While it's on my list, I'm going to get stargazer paid for first and get my side decals and pinstriping replaced after that. At that point, I"ll revisit the transom saver.

No, just some nicked letters, but I've been advised to do it all at once for the best match. The pinstriping is an inexpensive fix and I'm switching from black to silverflake

Brad's right, I'm as touched in the head as he is.

Because I was out of 2,000 grit). Switched over to xxxx steel wool. 3 coats of oil on the bottom. 5 on the top. Light steel wool rub between coats That should hold it until next year.

Let's see yours. C'mon G-Man, I'm looking in your direction.

You motivated me to work on my platform. The po had covered it in a varnish type stuff called watco. I have been working on stripping that nasty stuff off. Its been a real bear to get it out of the cracks in between the boards. I'm sure it will never measure up to the piece of fine furniture you have on the back of yours but it will sure be better then the way it was.

Are you sure it's not teak oil? Watco actually makes a teak oil. I used it once and wasn't very happy with the results, but I know some who still use it and like it.

Either way, enjoy the process. I spent yesterday installing a new muffler on my father-in-law's MasterCraft. Pretty easy (and I have the glass splinter to show for it), but I'd rather work on a platform any time.

Yea, I'm sure its not an oil, its hard and thick like a varnish. The po offered to give me the can of watco stuff, I looked at it and was really disapointed that it was type of varnish or similiar. I had to take 60 grit to get most of it off. The cracks in between the planks are killing me though. I'm having to hand sand them, and its quite thick where it has built up over several seasons.

At least it's not a slotted platform. I had many a busted knuckle trying to sand the one on my old boat.

you guys inspired me as well, i had a loose board on the very end of mine. tried the different methods guys have used but wound up taking the whole thing apart to clean 10 years out of the cracks. I pressure washed each individual piece, and am in the process of sanding each one.
I am going to put several coats of oil on the individual pieces before I start putting it back together. planning on redrilling and moving some of the screws because I had screw tips poking out in several places(nasty scratches on skis and skin). project going much better than anticipated so far.

If you're redrilling, here's what I did when I had to unscrew and redrill a platform to get it off the boat a year or so ago (my previous boat).

Go online and find teak plugs. Drill out the holes a bit and fill them with mineral spirits. When the mineral spirits have evaporated, get whatever might remain out with a q-tip. Coat your plugs with epoxy and squirt a bit into the holes. Then pound the plugs into place with a mallet. After 24 hours, the epoxy should have cured. You can sand and oil and you'll have a fairly hard time seing where the holes were.

For the new holes, you can rest your platform on the brackets while they are on the boat and mark the hole pattern. Then, just drill and reset the bracket screws.

i already got some 1/2" plugs, the piece that broke is the very end and has plugs where it is screwed to the support pieces. thanks for the advice, i was wondering about that.

do I need to drill pilot holes for the whole length of the screw? I know i need to drill a countersink hole for the plug, and am assuming i also need a pilot hole. I was surprised that the boards are not glued together at all.

I'm not sure about how deep the pilot holes need to be. I doubt I drilled them the length of the screw.
