    Rub Rail replacement question

I want to replace the rub rail on my 97 SS. I just talked to Brian at SECC and got a price for the rail, insert, caps and all hardware (comes as a full kit) of about $160.00. I asked him if I could get the insert in a different color than black as to which his reply was that CC does not offer colors anymore. I went on rubrails.com and poked around this morning. With my boat not next to me I do not know what insert it takes. Does anyone know the size? Im guessing 1/2 or 3/4 inch? All Brian said it is just the plain round insert and he was not certain of the size.

My boat is Burgundy and tan and Im thinking possibly going with a burgundy insert, if I can find it. I didnt see Burgundy on Rubrails site, I found a site called Morse and have emailed them to see if they have it. Thier site just says "many colors available." If I can find it, Ide like to get a couple feet of it and install it to be sure its the look I want before I get 50' or whatever it takes. Anyone have any other places to look? I can find a lot of black and white inserts, but not a lot of colors.

    Any info is GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks all,
    Scott

    RE: Rub Rail replacement question

I just replaced mine last week and it was a chore. You will have to have someone help you. If you can do it in a grassy area its better. You will start at one end and work your way around all the while dragging the excess rail with you. I did it on asphalt and had to take extra care not to scratch mine. When you start the insert mix a spray bottle with a little soap and water. Spray the insert and the rail so it goes in a little easier. Use a rubber mallet to hammer it in. As for the size of the insert I am going to guess 1/2" I am away from my boat too but am almost positive its half/

      RE: Rub Rail replacement question

Yeah I know its not that fun. Ive done a couple of them when I worked at a marina years ago when I enjoyed going to work everyday. Ive never done the vinyl insert. The few Ive done were all rope inserts. But none the less, a pain.

Im thinking its 1/2 inch as well. I just cant find burgundy insert. Ive found teal, purple, greys blues, whites, tans??? Maybe tan would look good as well. Im just thinking that it will show a lot more than a dark color.
