    Heater?

I am picking up my recently purchased 1990 SN this weekend and was wondering about installing a heater in the boat. Is this possiable or more trouble than it is worth?

Heaters are GOLD! Living up north, you'll never have a boat without one again!

Heaters are great, but another option that is less expensive and requires less maintenance is installing heated elements in the driver's seat. The kits run less than $100 on ebay and installation doesn't seem terribly complicated.

I use my Heater way more then my HW shower, I would highly recommend one!! Couple styles out there, the type with the windshield defroster outlet may be more trouble then it is worth on the install, that is unless you regularly have AM condensation on your windshield, then perhaps you would want it.

I love my hearter, those cold 30 degree mornings they can not be beat. The driver stays comfortable (and more alert), plus when you get out you can use the other outlet to get warm. I have the shower too, but overall i'd say more people use the heater. The shower is just used for the person getting out of the water.

            Heater?

Is this something I need to get from CC or is there another aftermarket company?

                Have to have a heater.
I always wanted a shower, but have not used the one that came in my current boat once in three seasons. I should just remove it the next time I am working on the motor because the only time it is turned on is winterizing.

A heater is a MUST HAVE item as others have said. At times it is the only way to get some family members out on the water. It never fails to impress when you first show someone the hot tube extension. I've had good luck ordering direct from Heatercraft.

                    RE: Heater?

Has anyone installed an aftermarket heater and wired it to the heater switch on the switch pod?

Are there any "gotchas" with the install, i.e. shutoff valve location, heater core location etc?

If you purchase the heatercraft heaters it should be, or was the same set up as the oem, iirc. I wired mine to the heater switch on the dash pod and just chose to use the high fan setting. Each fan setting had a wire, and the fan switch is a single pole, so you can only choose one speed. The heater is a great asset for cool weather boating.

                        RE: Heater?

On our 05' the heater was factory installed, it is wired to the dash pod heater button. First push of dash pod heater button turns on low speed, push again for medium, again for high and again to turn off. Never use any setting but high so the way NCH2O set up sounds even better.

NC, on my 99' AN, which also was ordered with a heater, the factory used a dial type switch, off - low - med - high, just below the throttle, that switch was a POS, had to be replaced several times.

Quinner, the newer switch sounds like the deal. My MC had a two position rocker switch and all we ever used was high.

The kits from Heatercraft come with a three position dial type switch. It is pretty generic looking. To me it looked out of place, and my 99' ski had a very convenient switch labled heater allready in place, complete with wire pigtail and all.

I orded my heater from www.schnitzskis.com he beat everyones price, and got me a 4 vent for the price of a three. I used one for defrost (almost worthless) then had a dedicated vent for the drivers feet (excellent) and two snorkel tubes (also excellent). If I were installing an aftermarket one, I would upgrade to the three vent, and skip the defrost. I also installed the low rpm WYE and I had very hot air at idle if the engine was up to temp.

For the record, I don't always use the high setting. I actually use low and medium 98% of the time because the air is much hotter, albeit slower moving. Plus, that heater motor draws some substantial wattage on the high setting.
