Anyone Have Trouble With Helm Control Ballast Valves?

Finally google presented me with a useful site!!!
I took delivery of my Air 216 in mid July. Love the boat, but the "auto" fill tanks have been a problem from day 1. The dealer told me that it was just a characteristic (as opposed to flaw) of the boat. I've been checking out various manufacturers of electronic valves, but as yet hadn't made a move. Plan to give the TH valves a try. Thanks to all for the info. and effort. Great site!

For Those Of You With T-H MARINE VALVES...

Correct Craft is looking for some people with first-hand knowledge of the T-H Marine valves. If those of you who have the T-H Marine valves installed would take a minute to send your thoughts on those valves to Correct Craft, they would really appreciate it. They are currently researching them, and are looking for some first-hand information from us!

TO ALL WHO HAVE REMOVED THE RED FLOW-RITE BALLAST VALVES & INSTALLED THE T-H MARINE BLACK VALVES. Correct Craft is testing these valves, but we would also like to hear from you. We want more validation. As soon as you can, please submit the following information:

1. Your boat hull number.

2. A picture of your T-H valve installation.

3. The number of hours put on the new valves.

4. Do the valves function for you?

5. In the CLOSED position do they keep water OUT of the tanks?

6. If not, how much do they leak?

7. Do you recommend them as a valid replacement of the flow-rite valves?

Anyone Have Trouble With Helm Control Ballast Valves?

I took delivery of my 206 Air this April and have about 50 hours thus far, My Helm control has never worked properly, in fact my tank will eventually completely fill up despite the helm control being closed, hence closing the valve under the dog house is the only way to ensure no water enters the tanks. My 99' Air never worked properly either.

I just got back from a week with my boat in the water for 24 hours a day...My tanks were constantly full...With the price of gas, I constantly had my pumps pushing water out of the boat...My favorite was every morning I would have to pump all the water out of the Belly tank on my 211...The boat was just sitting at the dock, not moving, and the tank would be full...

my 211 sat in the water for 3 days non stop. not a drop in the tanks, except when I left the center valve "open" and the center tank filled while the boat sat in a slip. this is with the T-H valves.

I checked on the top hat valves, they are 130.00 each retail. Seams kinda high, but to have it all on one switch it might be worth it.

It is really nice to have everything on one switch. The TH valves do seem to be a good replacement for the Flow-Wrongs, but the Red Hat valves do make for a very clean installation. The entire helm control system is eliminated, and with the cables out of the picture, there are fewer mechanical parts to break, and the driver's area looks cleaner. I really believe that this system (or something similar) is how these boats should have come from the factory. They're going in the right direction for 2006!

Hey all, I'm a noob and I don't even own a Nautique. I do have some pertinent info to add after reading all of the grief you guys went through with your ballasts. I have a Toyota, and the factory ballast with those boats changed drastically over the three years they were made. CC is certainly not alone in their frustration with the currently available parts and pieces to build a ballast system. I'm sure all other manufacturers (with one exception) have the same issues. The exception is Calabria, their system makes all others pitifully obsolete.

Don't use sprinkler valves, they leak both ways when pressure is not applied. They need 15 PSI to seal closed or open fully. They are terribly restrictive. Save your money, I have five or six I'll give you for postage.

The first iterations of the Toyota ballast systems used Jabsco pumps and a flow switch that would sound a warning buzzer. Impeller pumps seal the inlet adequately. The last versions had tanks under the floor, rule pumps and LED fill indicators. They used electric solenoid valves to seal the inlet.

Here is the valve that Toyota used in '02. It is an electric solenoid valve similar to the Red Hat. I looked through the company's literature but couldn't find the same model. I have not tried to source it or get a price, but it may be worth it. Jeff, maybe your contacts can get it?
