    Keypad Bypass

Last year on my 01 210 I had some intermittent issues with my keyless ignition keypad. I was going to try and bypass the keypad with a keyed ignition hidden under the dash so when my keypad stopped working I had a backup.
Never got around to doing it but yesterday I had an issue with the keypad again. My code includes the number 2 and guess what that button will not work. My dealer tells me he has a tool that can change the code by plugging it in and changing it. He's going to do it next week.
However I thought I best sort my backup plan out.
I have made a small metal bracket with a toggle switch and a push button mounted to it.
The idea is to flick the toggle switch to put the ignition on and then the push button to start the engine.

I am going to connect 12v from the battery to the toggle switch.
The other side of the switch to the push button and also to the purple/white wire in the loom which I believe is ignition 12v.
And finally the other side of the push button to the yellow/red wire for the starter motor.
I will get it wired in over the weekend hidden under the dash and let you know how I get on.
Hopefully it will help anyone else having keypad issues.

Interesting idea. I've always wondered, does the keypad go totally out when it goes bad, or can I bang it with a sledgehammer to get it work to get me home? Are there any signs to let me know its going bad? I figure its gonna happen sooner or later, and I'd like to be prepared.

Definitely worth keeping a sledge hammer on board for this lol. Not been able to fit the bypass yet as have had none stop rain last few days. I will update as soon as I do.

Managed to do a bit more this morning.
Have mounted the bypass and connected the toggle switch to the one side of the battery isolator switch.
Then I connected the other side of the toggle switch to the purple ignition wire in the harness.

I have tested it and when switching the toggle switch on I now have power to my dash and fuel pumps etc.
The only thing I noticed is I have no power to the right hand side auxillary keypad.
Looking at the wiring diagram all I now need is to connect another wire to my switch and connect that to the red wire for the keypad.
Going to work now so will try tomorrow with pictures to follow.

Connected the auxillary keypad to the switch today but no good. Think by doing that I'm putting 12v to the pad but not getting the breaker box powered up so nothing switching.
          BaCk to the drawing board

            @hyparks,

I seem to be about 18 months behind you, on a 2000 Air Nautique Had problems last year (my #4 is used twice), and yesterday a total "no-go". Glad it was in the driveway and not the lake.

It appears to me that if I connect a hot wire to the purple engine wire, the engine will have power and then switching a hot wire to the yellow/red engine wire will start the boat.

Is that what you did? Did you ever solve the auxillary keypad issue?

            Mike

Hi, That is exactly what I did. You need the purple wire connected to give power to fuel pumps etc. The red yellow wire goes to your starter.

No joy with the auxillary pad. I just use my bypass as an emergency.

              Good luck

Interestingly enough, I called the factory this morning and had a long conversation with customer service. The poor guy was very understanding but terrified of telling me how to bypass the PME due to legal reasons. After I pointed out to him that a one year old granddaughter stranded by a ski boat that wouldn't run after it got wet probably wasn't press they wanted, he mentioned that anyone familiar with boat wiring would be able to bypass it. I asked him about the purple and yellow/red wires and he confirmed it would work and not fry the PME.

Glad I was able get it worked out, but sure seems like a crazy policy on their part.

Yes does seem crazy. I will take a picture of my bypass fitted in my boat at the weekend. It is just tucked up under the dash. If I ever have an issue I just flick the switch and press the button and away I go.

Not really, difficult to get in to take a picture. If you download the wiring diagram for your boat from Planet Nautique you can see which wires are for your ignition and starter.
For my year boat, the purple wire gives you ignition +12v and the yellow/red wire is +12v goes to your starter.

Your boat may be the same. I can possibly sort a wiring diagram out for you if need be. Which boat do you have?

Already looked on PN and no wiring diagram for 2013 models. Darn! Anyone have the diagram for the 2013 models they can post?

I wouldn't have thought you would need a bypass for a 2013 Nautique. Since they changed the type of pad that's on mine to the newer type and then the Linc I havnt heard about any issues?

Forgive me if I am wrong

Currently would not have issues... Agreed, but would be a good idea long term.
