    FCT3 tower upgrade on a 2002 SAN

    Hi Guys and Gals,

I haven't been active here for ages so I thought I would post a cool project that I have been working on for the past year to upgrade my boat aesthetics. As I am a new dad of nearly 2 years, I don't get a lot of chance to ride these days so I am devoting more time to my "man cave"/boat house projects.

The first of which is this that went like this:
    1) Buy an FCT3 tower from N3 (in 2013), comes in 3 pieces - 2 sides + center ($3K + 1K freight + taxes)
    2) Get a friend to machine down the center piece by 4 inches to fit the 80 inch beam (complex but free luckily)
    3) Remove the old tower (sold for $1K)
    4) Place new tower
    5) Re-enforce underside (in progress)
    6) Get custom aluminum plates machined for underside
    7) Drill and mount + boardracks + spinners ($900 Nautique OEM off-inventory from Roswell)
    8) Enjoy (without pissing off my hubby by spending 130K on another new toy that I rarely use)

As this is a weekend project, I will be finished all this in about 2-4 weeks and it should be mounted within 2 weeks so more pics to come.

Oh yeah, all the dated stickers have been removed and the boat polished, maybe will be wrapped in carbon fiber or brushed black stainless vinyl and/or chromemax SAN lettering to come. Anybody have a hookup on OEM Chromax, $600 per side is a bit rough?

My next project will be to add Supra or Mastercraft Gen 2 style trim tabs (parts ordered). Anybody want to collaborate?

    Cheers!
    Sanj

Wow thats gonna look great. How much does it suck to work on a boat thats not sitting on a trailer?

That should look great. I love the gel coat lines and the colored deck. If it was mine I wouldn't mess with a wrap but some chromax letters would look great.

It's pretty easy access and with the boat lift and winch I can drop/raise the boat and micro-adjust the positioning of the tower which is a lot heavier than the FCT1

Some progress this weekend, the tower has now been mounted and calibrated to fit. It still isn't really usable until some underside reinforcement is installed but it's solidly in place and fits and looks factory stock. Underside reinforcement will take a while as some metal plates need to be machined.

So far, it's been about 25 man hours of installation work.

It looks better than I expected it to look when I saw the thread title.

I always wondered where the black python boat ended up. That is one sweet ride. With the new style tower you definitely have a unique/one of a kind rig.

Maybe you know something I don't, I knew it was rare but I thought there were several specimens around. I bought it new from the local dealer but it was a cancelled order from someone else that had just been delivered. Python is turning out awesome with huge ballast loads.

Update: underside backing plates from Liquid Audio Sounds 3/8-inch thick marine grade Syn Board (all plastic composite) drilled, cut and contoured.

Finally I have decided to first put in an NSS/Volvo Penta style blade surf trim tab and then additionally put in a bottom edge Supra style wave shaping trim tab next year. I have made some draft drawings for 3/16 stainless plates, spacers and actuator brackets. Cost estimate from emachineshop.com around $650 without shipping. In theory no welding will be necessary. If anybody has a better/cheaper machine shop please let me know

I will open source the drawings, parts lists and suppliers when I get final drawings.
