I have a 2008 SANTE 230 and live in Florida where the water is brackish. I don't want to get into a discussion on saltwater care because there are plenty of threads on here for that. Bottom line is this is where we live and the extra maintenance and care that comes with it is negligible for the value we get from this boat and this sport. With good practices, your boat can last.....rinse rinse rinse!!
SO in spring my alternator went bad, no biggie, its 7 years old, swapped easy. Then in JUN my TPS started acting up. Might just be a coincidence, but changed that out too. $150.
While out on a friends G21, I looked into his engine compartment and saw the reason my parts went bad. When you lift the engine hatch, there is a small channel wen water leaks into the engine. You can see in one of the pics there is a water stain which goes down into the engine, right above he alternator on the Left and TPS on the right. Woops! (shame on you Nautique) Obviously they saw this a problem beaus on the G series they have holes and drains to divert the water off the engine down to the bilge. Its from where people drip when coming back into the boat from a set.
I bough a piece of 2"PVC from Hoe Depot an cut about 1" of It out of the long way making a channel. Screwed it into the channel, poof, water goes right down the sides to the bilge. $5.
Been checking it after every ski and can see the salt stains just off the engine Will probably add some hose to just take the water directly below, but at least its off the electronics now.
Hope this helps someone out there!!
