When my wife and I surf without other adults in our '03 210 (our kids aren't ballast size yet) we usually place two 400lb FlyHigh sacs on the rear seat and port seat. This creates an awesome wave, but blocks access to the storage under that seat and the four cup holders behind it.
After checking out Jeff's and other's wrap around seat projects I decided this would be a good solution ie filling the gap behind the driver's seat with something useful. Truthfully I spent a few outings just checking out if we inadvertently used that area for anything, but usually nothing more than a cooler or snack bag tossed there.
I measured the port cup holders (diameter and spacing) so the sides would look symmetrical, and measured the space so if I add a cushion later it'll be the same height as the factory ones, and so there was ample room for driver's seat movement.
I used non-marine 5/8 ply for the structure, glued with PL Premium and screwed with 2" #8 screws. Pretty sure you could bolt an outboard to this
Initially I'd planned on first coating everything with polyester resin to waterproof, then finish the outside with gloss white gel coat and worry about finding grey outdoor carpet at a later date. This is why in this first photo the outer surfaces have polyester filler on them. Literally the day after I'd filled and sanded all the sides, I found perfect grey outdoor carpet at Home Depot. Other than a nice smooth surface for the carpet to adhere to, that was a couple of pointless hours of sanding.
Since I'd used unwaxed resin for the waterproofing coat, I still had to finish it with waxed gel coat before upholstering. I've upholstered the top, bottom, front and back, and the sides are drying as I type (carpet also glued with PL Premium).
Should be ready for the boat tomorrow, as I'm going to steal four cup holders from the bow until new ones arrive from NP.
