New Swim Platform -- 1999 SAN

I wanted to put the larger swim platform on my boat like those found on 2003+ Legacy SANs and SSNs, but finding one has proven difficult and/or really expensive--especially once shipping costs are included. But I recently found a reasonably-priced NOS platform that appears to have been for a 2004 216. After a little research, I discovered that the transom curve of the 216 and my SAN are nearly the same and that the measurement from the crown of the arch to the outside edge of the platforms are the same--the 216 platform is just wider. So I pulled the trigger and bought one. A couple of cuts and some sanding later (along with a good cleaning and some oil) and it is exactly what I envisioned. I intentionally left the cutouts for the lifting rings out--I've never used them and it's easy enough to remove the platform if I ever need to.

I am very pleased with the end result.

Excellent re-purposed use for that 216 platform! You'll love the extra room, especially when gearing up the little ones...

Nice work! The small platform is one of the few grips with my boat. Did you notice any change to the surf wave with the bigger platfrom?

Is that the newly upholstered sunpad that you had asked me about a little while back? If so it looks great and familiar.

No change to the surf wake. And the extra room is awesome.

That is the preexisting sunpad. I had already changed that piece last summer at a local shop. I still have not decided what to do with my interior. The bow backrest is the only piece that really needs to be replaced or fixed. The wife is not keen on changing the skins in the whole boat because one piece--albeit a major piece--needs attention. And I don't really have a good argument against her logic--especially when I keep spending money on other modifications.

            Happy Wife, Happy Life!

If you think of it, please take some pics of the removal process of that bow backrest. Mine is on it's way out but I think I still have another season or two out of it before it becomes an eye sore. Right now I think I'm probably the only one that even notices the two little cracks it has and I 303 it like crazy to try to prevent any more cracks from coming....

Would you be interested in selling your old stock platform?

Someone else asked me shortly after I posted this and I sold it to him.

Shawn...I forgot to take pictures, but removing the bow backrest is easy. There are five screws holding it in place--two under the helm, two under the observer's seat, and one at the tip just beneath the cushion utilizing an aluminum bracket. Once those screws have been removed, it lifts straight up and out.
