The only reason I can think of as to why a 2008 model Nautique didn't come with any form of gunwale storage is so they could add it later so people would upgrade. And they did. People in my boat are always looking for places to put phones, wallets, drinks etc so it makes good sense to have more places to store such items.
Here is my take on gunwale storage for the 2008 210.
Take lots of measurements and decide on a shape that both fits in the space with speaker and also looks factory, so similar to the 2012-2013 models but more suited to the existing trim and make a basic shape
Make a fibreglass mold. Shape as desired, and then produce storage shells.
Cut out the boat to find placement.
Cut out combing panel backing to suit.
Relieve corners of cut outs to prevent stress fractures.
Trial fit.
Getting coming panels trimmed, attach shells, add speaker and cup holder holes.
Add recessed cup holders, and lights.
A couple of these are progress shots and not the finished product.
All in all this is a very labour intensive job.
Only $150 in fibreglass products and about $250 in trimming, but LOTS of hours making everything fit right. Yes I suppose I could have bought shells from the 2012 model but if you look at the shape they wouldn't quite suit the pattern of the 2008 interior.
Nautique have thoughtfully added additional plugs for courtesy lights behind the combing panels so wiring in the lights was a cinch, almost like they knew this was going to become an option.
I intend to add A trimmed panel in the back of the shell with some sort of San detail. USB/12v socket to each of the storage units.
