It faces the bow... Where I mount it I don't think you'd have any water flowing across the plate if it mounted towards the stern.

Hey Core what did you end up using for final dimensions on the face of your gate? I am building one out of HDPE soon and would like to start out with the correct size and not have go through a few iterations to get it right.
Thanks,
Kyle
edit- I saw you tapered it 7.5" at the bottom to 4" at the top over a 9" length. Did I read that correctly? Would you do anything different?Last edited by kylem03; 02-18-2017, 08:04 AM.

I bought all the parts that was listed, except the HDPE in white. The sucker is aluminum I just painted it red and put anti-rust paint on the interior springs and posts. Made the opening on each side a semi (sorta) circle to make flipping the toggles easier. I am going to tether it to my sons old life vest and have it sit on the back sun deck. So if it falls off, it will float. I was pushing the boat backwards by pushing on this suck-gate while in the garage so it seems pretty sturdy.

Just to add my 2 cents worth. I made a suck gate last year for my 01 SAN. Originally had a 2 headed suction cup like I see on all these posts, one of my levers broke and then I went online to northertool.com and ordered a 4 headed suction cup that way if one does break or loses suction I am still getting suction from the other 3. There is just enought room on that back corner where its angled to attach and you have a little play room but not a lot. Just and FYI.

What did you use to cut the board?
Not sure on drill bit size... I just used whatever was slightly larger than the screws I used. I used a jigsaw to cut the HDPE... It cuts just like wood.

These are all great ideas, thanks for sharing! I've had troubles keeping my 2-head plastic cup on my '95 SS. Ordered an aluminum handle, but I might switch to the 4-cup handle if that doesn't work. Also, the cutting board route looks way better than my metal shelving frame

As far as the angle goes, the reason this one is 90 degree is due to the hull shape of the Original SAN 210. The back corner angles in so the actual angle of the device when place here is closer to 45 or 60 degrees.
