    FAE exhaust install 03 SAN

    Install steps
1.) Remove swim platform and exhaust flapper
2.) Remove middle swim platform bracket.
2-9/16" wrenches and two people, one reaching up behind the muffler to gain access to the bolts inside, one turning the bolts from the outside
3.) Install new aluminum bracket with marine adhesive. Again two people with 9/16" wrenches
4.) Drill 4 holes around the exhaust port
5.) Screw in stainless screws into the exhaust port
6.) Put new rubber tubing around exhaust port,
7.) Put 3 hose clamps onto exhaust tubing and only tighten loosely.
8.) Put FAE into exhaust tubing and tighten hose clamp loosely so, that the pipe can still be moved around.
9.) Feed up long threaded bolt from the welded on bracket of the FAE pipe. I put a nut to hold the threaded bolt to hold onto place
10.) Put stainless tubes over threaded bolts
11.) Figure out needed length of stainless tubes based on where the upper bracket interfaces onto the upright tubes.
12.) Cut upright tubes to length
13.) Drill holes onto upper bracket the same width as the lower bracket
14.) Thread on bolts onto the threaded bolts to the upper bracket
15.) Figure out left/right placement of upper bracket with respect to where it aligns with the swim platform bracket.
16.) Clamp upper bracket to swim platform with C-Clamp and then drill two holes through the swim platform bracket and through the upper bracket.
17.) Install swim bracket to upper bracket bolts
18.) Wiggle the FAE pipe to get everything aligned and vertical and then tighten hose clamps and bracket nuts
19.) Cut threaded bolts to length.

Neat project. Did you consider using support struts with heim joints (or just rubber bushing) on each end (as rod ends)? Then weld or u-bolt a traverse mounting stud to the platform mount and bolt on the adjustable struts on each end of the mounting stud?

I see. From where does the FAE come? Where did you buy it?

We just went through a group buy, if you go for it mention Planet Nautique and see if you can get in on the group buy.

Looks nice! I was considering getting one of these as well. Have you had it out yet? If so how does it do?

Lowers engine noise, no exhaust in your face surfing, seems to slightly effect steering at low idle, but that could just be me expecting it and assuming. Also is another place for weeds to get caught while running. The lower engine noise is nice. Helps the stereo surfing alot.

Any other feedback on FAE for OG 210? Would you recommend getting the the flapper? Is there any chance/feedback by adding the FAE it could damage the engine since you are changing the exhaust flow?

Phil, the flapper is an option and even talking with them, it doesn't seem like it's needed anyway, it just prevents water from coming back into the exhaust but, as far up over the water the exhaust is, it's highly unlikely any water could make it's way up there. As for engine damage, it's like saying adding a cat back system on your car could cause engine damage.

                      Hi,
You inspired me to buy and install a FAE exhaust! So I wanted to thank you.
                      I also learned something....
Larry is flexible in terms of mounting options. We did a mounting delete (-$40) on mine and I came up with a different design which I thought more to my tastes. I shared back with Larry @ FAE and perhaps they'll offer similar.
In the end, they'll pretty much do whatever a customer wants.

Looks like a much simpler installation and cleaner but, taking off the platform is gonna require a few more steps

Yep, you are right and thank you. If I remove, I'd have to remove the 8 wood screws. But, i don't remove the platform at all, now, for any reason. In its barn, there is plenty of length.
If I did remove regularly, I'd definitely have designed a different support system.
