Many of us have seen the issue where the PP display becomes unreadable due to excessive moisture. The problem has moved from annoying to very expensive because the components aren't available anymore so no new ones can be made. I've had it happen on 3 displays now and the latest one was because the boat sat all winter with the cover on but outside and the repeated rain and sun caused the issue (along with two ballast gauges that also died). The solution from PP today is to buy a GPS model that will run almost $1000. I removed by gauge from the dash and tried to understand how to take it apart. Sadly, this is not possible the chrome edge around the display is compressed and molded on. I did cut the chrome edge off of an extra one I had and got a look inside - and there are some possible areas where the touch of a hot solder gun might yield some success, but you'll forever have a chrome edge with a cut in it.
While I have mine out, a friend of mine suggested putting some of those silica packets inside of it (the ones that come inside of a vitamin bottle or an electronics package). the gauge has a hole large enough on the back to insert a smaller-sized packet, so I did. I also taped a larger one to the back of the gauge. I then let it completely dry out by leaving it in an air-conditioned house for about two weeks. I ran it all summer and never had another issue with it.
