    DIY wake shaper

Created this wake shaper using HDPE and a suction cup following instructions similar to this:

I modified the design a little bit based upon the tools that I had easily available, and I made it a bit larger on the face. After some experimentation, we got it working rather well. We have a 2005 Air Nautique 216 direct-drive limited. Using only the factor ballast (about 700 lbs I think in the trunk), it is not quite enough wave to go rope- less unless you have enough people on board. With 5 adults plus the ballast, we can drop the rope. Youtube video is at the link below. Some things I learned along the way:

    - Attach the wake shaper as far aft as you can. With our boat, the hull curves back in near the rear and the straight-edge suction cups do not hold. So, I place it about even with the fuel vents.
    - Attach the shaper so that the water line is about 90% of the way to the top of the shaper face when sitting still with ballast set.
    - Listing the boat helps with the weight levels that I'm using. For us this was done by placing heavier people on the surf side and others sitting on the trunk lid.

Future plans include purchasing some aftermarket fat sacs, and experimenting a bit more with the shape of the wake shaper. I also plan to experiment a bit with the suction cup design such that I can mount the device farther aft on our boat.
