Steering Cable Replacement for Super Sport, SAN, etc.

Here is a video I put together for replacing the steering cable on our 95 Super Sport. Hope this is helpful to those who are trying to replace the steering cable themselves.

Great Video!. In my 2006 220 SANTE, I ended up snaking the cable along the outside of the boat and making the S-curve into the front of the engine compartment to re-attach.
In the end I learned cutting the steering rack off the cable was TOUGH! Total circus gnawing through it.

And lastly, remove drivers rear ballast to get easy access to the rudder/shoulder and the mounting bracket. I wasted ALOT of time noodling around until I found a very reasonable way to route and re-attach a cable in the 220.

I just replaced the steering cable on my 08 210. Huge job! Start with the starboard engine side panel, alternator and trans cooler and hoses they have to come out or be moved to get to the pivot tube and rudder arm. Then remove the rear seat and floor. Drop the under dash panel ,right side front seat back and the rear panel under the bow seat . Then you can get to the cable connections. There are a bunch of zip ties screwed to the stringer next to the gas tank they are not accessible without pulling the fuel tank . After the straps and fuel hoses are removed and the tank is drained you will find the tank is about 1/8 '' bigger than the access hole I used a sander to open it up. Now the tank can be removed . What you will find under the tank is a gross slimy black coating on the bilge floor and bottom of the tank. After that mess is cleaned you can get to the Philips head screws that hold the zip ties to the stringer. You will find they used them all the way under the deck next to the drivers seat. There is no way to get to these so a long screw driver will cut them . Because my boat has a factory heater one of the front ballast hoses needed to be removed to make space for the cable to come through. The only thing I will add to the video is to center the steering wheel and rudder before you start that will get it close to center in the end. So after two days I have a clean bilge clean tank and a new steering cable . I don't know what a dealer would charge I'm sure they would not pull the tank to remove the zip ties just cut them?
You can see the zip ties holding the hoses and steering cable . The cable is under the red heater hoses.
