Official Correct Craft Press Release:
Orlando, FL (December 7, 2017) - At the end of November, employees from MarineMax, Correct Craft, and Nautique came together in the British Virgin Islands to assist residents with their recovery efforts.
Bill Yeargin, President and CEO of Correct Craft, stated, “Our team was thrilled to partner with MarineMax on this important project to help those who were severely impacted by this season’s hurricanes.” Yeargin added, “Our friends at MarineMax share our culture of ‘Making Life Better’ and we appreciated the opportunity to serve with several outstanding members of their team.”
For three days, employees from these marine industry leaders joined together to help the residents on the island of Tortola and specifically the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.
As one of only two tertiary institutions in the British Virgin Islands, this is a vital component of education for local residents and students. The college offers a wide variety of subjects including Arts and Sciences, Business, Tourism, and Information Technology, Education and Community Programmes, and - most notably – Technical and Marine Studies. They recently received accreditation allowing them to expand their technical course offerings, giving students the opportunity for both hands-on and in-classroom learning.
Due to hurricane Irma, the school’s surrounding area suffered major damage including several downed trees, roofing damage, and mass debris. This debris along with the lack of power, air conditioning, and lights have prevented most students from returning to school. The MarineMax, Correct Craft, and Nautique team worked diligently to clear the campus and accessible roads in order for these problems to be fixed and for students to resume their education.
Despite the destruction on shore, the British Virgin Islands are making progress in their recovery efforts. The water is beautiful as ever, snorkeling and diving spots remain, grocery stores and local hotspots are returning to business.
