Eager wakeboard fanatics packed the shores of Lake Andrea in Pleasant Prairie, just outside of Kenosha, Wisconsin today to witness a huge display of wakeboarding and wakeskating at its finest.
An enormous field of young riders finished their battle in the Rip It JX division and this group proved there is a promising future in the competition arena. Adam Errington, winner of the 2006 Pro Tour, won by landing a smooth backside lipslide on the transfer box followed by a stunning toeside frontside 720 on his way to victory, a National title repeat for the 18-year-old Errington.
Pro Women's wakeboarding brought a storm to the lake with last year’s champion, Dallas Friday, boosting off the wake in her normal aggressive fashion. This marks a five-time repeat for Friday, an unprecedented feat in Pro Women's competition.
Wakeskaters were pleased to launch off the Air Nautique 210 wake with an amazing semifinal round on Saturday. Today, conditions were a bit more windy, but manageable, as wake-master Brian Grubb sealed the deal after sticking a toeside shove-indy, slob grab frontside 360 and a big backside 180, definitely utilizing the huge wake. “It’s good to be behind the boat in a contest,” Grubb said. “I think wake-to-wake riding is where wakeskating started and to be able to represent that at a national level is great for the sport.”
Pro Men narrowed down to a five-man final with an impressive performance from legendary competitor Shaun Murray and ripper Andrew Adkison, but today was Tino Santori’s time for the limelight as he stuck a toeside frontside 720 and 900, as well as a heelside frontside 720, switch backside 540 and heelside frontside 900 off the double-up. This is Santori’s second National title and the 22-year-old was stoked to re-visit this podium. “It was a dream to be able to win the Nationals two years ago on my Dad’s birthday in Indianapolis and for it to happen again is incredible,” Santori said. “It definitely took two 900’s for me to win today.” The win was even sweeter for Santori because he had a huge family showing with his parents, uncles, aunts and cousins on the shore cheering him to victory.
Winning the U.S. Air Force Big Air Awards was Danny Harf with a heelside frontside cab 900 off the kicker. Winning the Rip It Rail Award was Philip Soven with a frontside 270 transfer to 270 spin off the transfer box.
