Official USAWS Press ReleaseUSA Water Ski has announced that it has named Andy Jugan as the organization’s new executive director. Jugan, 55, brings more than 20 years of sports management experience to the national governing body of organized water skiing. He has been the executive director of the Greater Louisville Sports Commission for the past six years. He will begin his new position at USA Water Ski headquarters in July.
Upon receiving a unanimous endorsement from USA Water Ski’s five-person Executive Search Committee, Jugan’s hiring was subsequently approved by USA Water Ski’s Executive Committee and the organization’s board of directors. Jugan replaces Steve McDermeit, who resigned in April after serving nine years as executive director.
“I think Andy will take USA Water Ski to a new level,” said Sherm Schraft, president of USA Water Ski. “He is a proven leader with a solid record of professional experience. I truly believe he is the right person to lead USA Water Ski.”
After being named the first executive director of the Greater Louisville Sports Commission in March 2000, Jugan developed and wrote the organization’s mission statement, long and short-term goals, and policies and procedures. Jugan also solidified strategic partners and funding sources, and increased the annual operating budget from $200,000 to more than $575,000 in just four years. Today, the Greater Louisville Sports Commission attracts and manages more than 135 events and generates more than $135 million in economic impact for Louisville.
Prior to moving to Louisville, Jugan served as executive director of the Lubbock (Texas) Sports Authority and Syracuse (New York) Sports Corporation. He received his bachelor’s of science degree from Western Michigan University and his master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.
”Although I have enjoyed a long and successful career in sports as an athlete, coach and administrator, I have always aspired to work for the United States Olympic Committee or one of the national governing bodies,” Jugan said. “USA Water Ski has presented me the opportunity to achieve that. My wife, Kathy, and I see this as a tremendous, exciting professional opportunity with a strong organization that has limitless potential for additional growth and development. I look forward to a long and successful tenure as executive director of USA Water Ski.”
