ORLANDO, FLA. (May 12, 2006) —Team Nautique motocross champion Ricky Carmichael won his fifth AMA Supercross title, May 6, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Supercross competition is comprised of 16 rounds. Carmichael placed on the podium fourteen times giving him a total of 338 points, edging out Bubba Stewart and Chad Reed by two points for the title. Carmichael has won 14 combined AMA Supercross/Motocross Championships.
The day prior to the last round Carmichael announced that this year would be his last full Supercross season. However, he said he will still race in select races and remain extremely involved in the industry.
Nautique Team manager Brian Sullivan said, “Ricky is a great role model for young athletes and an accomplished diplomat for the sport. Even with a reduced competitive schedule he’ll be instrumental in the future of the sport.”
