Some of the world's top women's water ski jumpers will compete in the 2006 Backyard Invitational, presented by Sunset Lakes Ski Club, April 8-9, in Okahumpka, Fla. A $10,000 cash-prize purse will be split among the top-five finishers at the event, with $3,000 going to the champion.
The two-round, world-record capability event includes a preliminary round on Saturday, April 8, and a final round on Sunday, April 9. The top-20 women's competitors on the International Water Ski Federation's Elite Rankings List receive an automatic invitation to the tournament. In addition, five wildcard spots will be given - at the discretion of the tournament organizer - to athletes on the 2005 IWSF World Rankings List who have not competed in an elite tournament.
In addition to the elite women's jumping tournament, a Junior Backyard Invitational will take place during the same weekend, and will consist of Boys and Girls slalom, tricks and jumping.
For more information on the tournaments, including registration information, send an e-mail to skijmpgod@aol.com or call (407) 492-8910.
PlanetNautique's own Jeff Carroll (NautiqueJeff) will be filming the entire tournament, and will be posting the video to the Internet through the Watersports Webcasts website. The video will be uploaded Monday night after the tournament ends.
