ORLANDO, FL (August 8, 2005) —Over the past two weeks Team Nautique has been very successful competing at various wakeboard and waterski events. Team Nautique athletes Phillip Soven, Robi Rendo, Tarah Benzel, and Kyle Eade made their mark at the 2005 World Games in Germany, while Clementine Lucine, Thomas Degasperi and Jaret Llewellyn placed in their respective disciplines at the first stop of the 2005 Waterski World Cup Series.
Soven, a Florida native took home another gold medal, tallied 88.23 points more than enough to secure first place in the Men’s Wakeboarding Division. In Women’s Wakeboarding, Rendo, a native of Argentina scored 61 points which earned her a bronze medal. Rendo stated, "The riding conditions were almost perfect, I rode well both days, having perfect passes in qualifying and finals." In the Waterski aspect of the World Games, Benzel tore it up. She finished third in Women's Jump and Tricks. Benzel jumped 43.3m and tricked a score of 5210 points. Benzel also finished fourth in Slalom with a run of 2@12m. With these scores, Benzel placed first in Women's Overall. Eade certainly did his best, giving Ryan Green a run for his money in Men's Jump. Eade just missed first place by tenths of a point and took home a Silver medal and also took a Bronze medal in Slalom with a run of 2.5@11.25m.
The first stop of the Waterski World Cup Series was held in Dubna, Russia where Team Nautique did a great job considering the conditions were not very favorable on the last day of competition. Lucine had an incredible day in the preliminary rounds; she scored the highest points in all three disciplines, something that has never been achieved in the World Cup Series. Lucine tied for second place along with Lori Krueger in Women’s Slalom with a run of 2@11.25m. In Women’s Tricks, Lucine took home the Silver medal, she tricked 7320 points. The Men’s Slalom event was quite exciting as there was a four way tie for second place. Team Nautiques Degasperi tied with fellow competitors Jodi Fisher, Fabio Ianni and Drew Ross with a run of 3@10.75m. Men’s Jump, Llewellyn set a new course record with a jump of 66.3m and
took home the Gold medal, proving his eleven World Records are not just a coincidence.
