Soven, the youngest competitor in men's wakeboarding, landed a switch crow mobe 540, a nuclear whirly 540 and a whirly 720. His big tricks were some of his best yet, but his sliding was only adequate as compared to Harf. On the double-up, Soven attempted a toe-side backroll with a backside 360, known as the blind Pete Rose, but fell and claimed second place.
The week prior to the X Games, Harf claimed the Portland Pro Wakeboard Tour Stop Championship, riding away from the competition with pure style and sick maneuvers. Harf went into this X Games with more confidence than ever, lining a heelside 720, switch heelside 720 and a toeside boardslide on the fun box—a three-trick combo that the judges rewarded handsomely.
The door opened a crack, and Danny "Big Money" Harf kicked it down and stomped a huge toeside 900 off the double up to claim his fourth X Games gold medal in 5 years. Harf truly showed his ability to rise to the occasion and to the pressure of live television.
