The title of “Australian Wakeboard Pro Tour Champion” is being hotly contested between New Zealand’s Jeff Weatherall & current Aussie tour champ Daniel Watkins. With the Planet X Wake Slam Jam being the 2nd last round of the 05 Series – it will go down to the wire to see who can claim the title. Following last years success of the event – the Wake Slam Jam will be on again in the ideal location of Moya Park – outside landmark shopping centre, Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast.
The water course will feature all new wakeboard rails that transform the water into the equivalent of a floating skate park. There will be plenty of action with a world class field of 32 riders slide the wakeboard rails and launch as high as they can off the wake from the official towboat, a 2005 Air Nautique 210 Team Edition.
Eight finalists will compete for their share of event prize money – and to gain points for the overall tour championship. The event will also host an Expo area, retail outlet and the 2005 Miss Boarder Pro Tour model contest.
The tour title is closely contested with both riders separated by only 45 points. Current Australian Pro Tour Champion & Current World Series Champion, Daniel Watkins has experience on his side but definitely has his work cut out for him as fresh young New Zealand rider Jeff Weatherall hits some of the best form of his career to challenge for this years Pro tour title.
Josh Sanders and Canadian Rusty Malinoski are leading a late charge in the series points having each won one of the last two events. With a strong showing at the Planet X Wake Slam Jam this will place them in a strong position to contest the leadership of the APTW series. With only 2 events to go – the Planet X Wake Slam Jam on the Gold Coast will be an important round to see who can claim the 2005 championship title. The remaining field of riders are also in hot contention as anyone of them can stand up a world class run - Brett Eisenhauer, Chris O’shea, Troy Mackey, Greg Falzon & the 2005 Planet X Slam Fest champion Dean Smith.
The Planet X Wake Slam Jam will have ˝ hour TV special produced on the event and will be shown on the Australian terrestrial network Seven, Fox Sports, Fuel and Sky Channel.
