The Moomba Masters Water Ski Tournament will be held March 11-14, 2005. The Junior Moomba Masters will be March 9-10, 2005.
Since 1961 the Moomba Masters Water Ski Tournament has been at the soul of Melbourne's Moomba Festival with an estimated 500,000 people crowding the banks of the Yarra River each year to witness what is now one of the most prestigious water skiing tournaments in the world.
The Moomba Masters has always attracted the cream of professional tournament water skiers and in 1998 expanded to include wakeboarding - one of the post popular water sports in the world.
So what makes the Moomba Masters so Unique? What makes it an event every professional water skier wants to compete in?
Quite simply, there is nothing like it. Nowhere in the world do you have the crowds like the Moomba Masters, or a water ski venue with a stadium-like atmosphere set in the heart of a city with people who are sports crazy!
The Yarra River can make or break champions and only those skiers who truly respect the river come away with a Moomba crown.
When the sun shines and the trees are still the Yarra River can be one of the most conducive water ski venues, producing huge scores and close competition. But as history has shown, Melbourne weather can turn sour in minutes turning the Yarra River into a fast flowing soupy mess which can (and usually does) cause chaos among the skiers.
Throughout the years the Moomba Masters has seen all the legends of the sport and continues to showcase the up and comers who come to Melbourne each year to participate in this unique event that brings out the best and worst in skiers and keeps the spectators on the edge of their seats.
