Pine Mountain, GA (May 29, 2010) – The 51st Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament® kicked off today at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA with Nautique athlete Clementine Lucine setting a new course record in the Women’s Tricks semifinals!
The Men’s Tricks Semifinals kicked off the event this morning with an experimental format, taking the best score of two runs to advance to the finals. Herman Beliakou along with Pierre Ballon, Aliaksei Zharnasek and Ryan Dodd will advance to tomorrow’s finals. Clementine Lucine earned top seed with a strong performance in the Women’s Tricks semifinals with 8,640 points, thus taking the lead in this event and breaking the current course record followed by Danyelle Bennett, Whitney McClintock and Mandy Nightingale.
In other events, Karina Nowlan earned top seed in Women’s Slalom after she won the run-off against Nautique skier Whitney McClintock. Jamie Beauchesne took the lead in Men’s Slalom with 4.5@39-off while Will Asher edged out Chris Parrish in a run-off to advance to the finals.
The competition was fierce and the women wakeboarders went bigger then ever behind the Super Air Nautique 230 in the semifinals advancing Amber Wing, Meagan Ethell, Nicola Butler and Dallas Friday to the finals.
Nautique athlete Bob Soven had a stand up pass followed by brother Phillip Soven in Heat #1 of the Men’s Wakeboarding semifinals; while in Heat #2 the riding was intense with Danny Harf throwing the most creative run of the day as well as a solid performance by Rusty Malinoski landing back to back 900’s.
Ending the day with the jump semifinals, June Fladborg took the lead followed by Alex Lauretano, Marion Mathieu and Natalia Berdnikova. Jaret Lleweyn, the Men’s jump leader going into the finals tomorrow will be battling it out with Ryan Dodd, Freddy Krueger and Thomas Asher in the finals.
The Opening Ceremonies of the 51st Masters Finals will begin tomorrow at 10:00 am with the Parade of Champions followed by the 51st Masters Finals at 10:30 am.
