Pine Mountain, GA (May 28, 2011) – The 52nd Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament® kicked off today at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA. France’s Iris Cambray set a new course record in the Women’s Tricks semifinal, and for the first time in Masters history six slalom competitors skied into 41-off (10.25m) during the semifinal!
Iris Cambray earned top seed with a strong performance in the Women’s Trick semifinal breaking the course record with a score of 8,790 points, followed by Mandy Nightingale and Team Nautique athletes Natallia Berdnikava and Whitney McClintock. In Men’s Tricks Jaret Llewellyn, who was injured during the 51st Masters, tricked 10,460 points to claim the last spot for tomorrow’s finals along with Jimmy Siemers, Aliaksei Zharnasek and Alexandre Poteau.
Last year’s Masters Slalom Champion Regina Jacquess earned top seed going into tomorrow’s finals followed by Karen Truelove, Anais Amade and Karina Nowlan in Women’s Slalom.
The Men’s Slalom semifinal round was one of the most exciting in Masters history. Team Nautique skier Jason McClintock was first off the dock setting the bar at an all-time high with a score of 1@41-off. Nautique Teammate Jonathan Travers followed, scoring 2@41-off along with Aaron Larkin, Jamie Beachesne, and Thomas Degasperi resulting in a four man run-off, while Will Asher secured his spot in the finals with 2.5@41-off. In the runoff, Thomas Degasperi, Jonathan Travers, and Aaron Larkin made it through to the final round.
In other events, Reed Hansen had a stand up pass behind the Super Air Nautique 210 followed by Brian Grubb in Heat #1 of the Men’s Wakeskate semifinal. Stuart Shinn and Team Nautique rider Brandon Thomas advanced on from Heat #2.
In Women’s wakeboard, Nicola Butler had scored 73.33 points advancing on with Raimi Merritt, Amber Wing and Haley Smith.
Australia’s Harley Clifford put down two solid passes scoring 90.00 points followed by Rusty Malinoski who edged out Bob Soven in Heat #1 of the Men’s Wakeboard semifinal. In Heat #2 Phillip Soven and Team Nautique rider Shaun Murray will advance on to the finals.
The Jump semifinals rounded out the day with Team Nautique athlete Natallia Berdnikava took the lead and was just short of tying the course record. Jacinta Carroll, Regina Jaquess and Maj Lund Jepsen will also advance to the finals. Freddy Krueger, the Men’s jump leader going into the finals tomorrow will be battling it out with Jaret Llewellyn, Damien Sharman and Ryan Dodd.
The Opening Ceremonies of the 52nd Masters Finals will begin tomorrow at 10:00 am with the Parade of Champions followed by the 52nd Masters Finals at 10:00 am.
