Pine Mountain, GA (May 25, 2012) – Perfect weather kicked off the 20th Junior Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament® this Memorial Day Weekend at beautiful Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA.
Giannina Bonnemann from Germany claimed the Junior Women’s Trick title with a score of 6,880 points followed by Anna Gay who made her first appearance at the Junior Masters and Alice Bagnoli from Italy. In the Junior Men’s Trick final, top seed Joshua Briant finished strong with 9,680 points securing the Junior Masters title, followed by Dorien Llewellyn and Santiago Robledo in second and third place.
Additionally, in the Junior Women’s Slalom final, Brie Carter was last off the dock and was able to round 4 buoys at 35-off edging out Makayla Haw and Camille Poulain-Ferarios to become the 2012 Junior Women’s Slalom Champion. Team Nautique athlete K.C. Wilson tied the Junior Men Slalom course record not once but twice today claiming a Junior Masters title! Wilson currently co-holds the course record of 2@39-off with Ian Trapp who set it in 2003. There was another exciting slalom run-off during the Junior Men’s final between Jaret Bull and Zane Nicholson. Nicholson won the run-off to finish second and Bull rounding out the podium.
During the Junior Men’s Wakeboarding semifinal, last minute alternate Gordon Harrison, a first time competitor at the Junior Masters came out and gave it his all earning a spot in the finals with Freddie Wayne and Mike Dowdy behind the all-new Super Air Nautique G23. Harrison, first off the dock in the finals went out and threw down but was no match for Wayne who had an awesome run even after arriving late the evening before due to orientation at the University of Florida. Last off the dock, Dowdy crushed it with a heel backside 7, crow 5, heel side off-axis 7 and a massive toeside 9 claiming his first Junior Masters title with a final score of 85 points.
Makayla Haw jumped 143 feet claiming the Junior Masters Women’s Jump title followed by Hanna Straltsova and Brittany Greenwood. Additionally, the Junior Men’s Jump final last chance qualifier Alex King claimed the Junior Masters Jump title edging out Australian Joshua Briant by two tenths of meter with Gianmarco Pajni rounding out the podium.
Competing in all three events and scoring consistently earned Makayla Haw and Joshua Briant the prestigious Junior Masters Overall titles.
