Official Nautique Press Release:
Cancun, Mexico (April 22, 2018) - The Mayan Water Complex played host to the Nautique Wake Open presented by Rockstar Energy Drink this weekend right outside beautiful Cancun, Mexico. The Super Air Nautique G23 was on hand providing the perfect wakes for the best professional and amateur riders aiming for Wake Open titles.
The future stars of the sport rode behind the G23 during the amateur divisions in order to showcase their skills. The top wakeboarders and wakeskaters of all ages felt perfectly comfortable behind the G23, 5X Wakeboard and 4X Wakesurf boat of the year, and were able to throw down their best runs on the perfect water conditions.
The Pro Women were ripping behind the award-winning G23 and when it was said and done Nautique team rider Zahra Kell taking home the Nautique Wake Open title. After Zahra put down a couple world class passes she finished up her Wake Open run with a roll to blind to seal the win. “I felt so comfortable behind the G23 along with the perfect conditions here at the Mayan Water Complex,” said Kell. “All of the Pro Women threw down so it was felt extra special to take the win today. A big thanks to Nautique and The WWA for putting on such a great event.”
During the Pro Men division, team Nautique riders Mike Dowdy and Tony Iaccconi rode insane all week long in order to seal their spot in the Finals with the best riders in the world. They both felt extremely comfortable during the Final round behind the award-winning Super Air Nautique G23, as Tony put together a couple passes that landed him in seventh spot, while Mike Dowdy threw together a handful of technical tricks to place him in second spot on the podium.
“The Nautique Wake Open is an annual staple opening the North American leg of the Nautique Wake Series. We are excited to bring this elite event to Mexico for the first time and witness the continued progression of wakeboarding in all parts of the world,” said Nautique President Greg Meloon. “With a great location and rider turn out, the wakes of the Super Air Nautique G23 again provided the biggest stage to send riders to Wake Open titles!”
