Official Nautique Press Release:
Orlando, FL (January 6, 2020) -The IWWF has named their 2019 Waterskiers of the Year with Team Nautique Athletes Erika Lang (USA) and Pato Font (MEX) taking top honors in the female and male categories. Erika and Pato are both coming off incredible years skiing at tournaments around the world, tallying up podium finishes and world records behind the award-winning Ski Nautique. Both Erika and Pato train at home exclusively behind the Ski Nautique and directly connect their success with the ability to train behind the best waterski boat in the world.
Erika had a standout year in 2019, breaking the Female Trick Ski World Record once again. She became the first woman to trick over 11,000 points and broke the World Record with a score of 11,260 points. Another defining moment was when Erika won the Nautique Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament® Women’s Trick division as well. "It is such an honor to win the IWWF Female Waterskier of the year,” said Erika Lang. “This award is something I’ve wanted to achieve since I was very young, and I couldn’t be more grateful to be chosen for this title!”
Pato also had a career defining year, breaking the Junior Men’s Trick World Record 6 times during the 2019 season. Pato also continued his winning dominance by taking the titles at the Nautique Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament Men’s Trick division and the World Title at the IWWF Waterski World Championships in Malaysia. “I’m very thankful for the honor of being named Waterskier of the Year by the IWWF,” said Pato Font. “Training behind the Ski Nautique every day has greatly improved my confidence knowing that the wakes would be the same during the events. I’m looking forward to pushing the level of waterskiing again in 2020!”
“I am extremely proud of Erika and Pato for their accomplishments in 2019, and this recognition from the IWWF is well deserved,” said Nautique President Greg Meloon. “Training behind the award-winning Ski Nautique is a clear advantage in optimizing their high potential, and we are excited to witness their continued domination of the waterski world as they break World Records and stand on the podiums of the most prestigious events.”
