Official Nautique Press Release:
Ferreira do Zêzere, Portugal (September 5, 2023) - An incredible weekend of action was capped off with Nautique athletes taking the top spots during the Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships presented by GM Marine. The event was held at the beautiful Lago Azul in Ferreira do Zêzere, Portugal, with crowds on hand to witness the 145 of the best wakeboarders from around the world ride behind the award-winning G23.
The performances from the Team Nautique athletes made for a dramatic finish to the 2023 season with Zahra Kell and Cory Teunissen winning the Pro Women and Pro Men divisions respectively. After taking some time off from competition, Zahra had an incredible season and was unstoppable in Portugal. Earning her way into the finals, Zahra put together two passes behind the G23 that easily sealed the win and the World title. This win clinched the overall season titles for Zahra in the Nautique Wake Series and WWA Wakeboard World Series.
“This season has been absolutely incredible.” said Zahra Kell. “For me, the Nautique Wake Series and WWA Wakeboard World Series have always been the pinnacle for wakeboarding, and to win three out of four of these events during my comeback season and take the overall series win is like a dream come true. The Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships in Portugal was also by far my favorite event of the year. Bring on 2024!”
Team Nautique Cory Teunissen felt right at home behind the G23 all weekend long and added yet another World title to his belt. This win clinched the overall Nautique Wake Series and WWA Wakeboard World Series titles for Cory, making this the culmination of an incredible season where he dominated the competition scene event after event.
“This year has been one of the biggest emotional roller coasters I've ever been on.” said Team Nautique athlete Cory Teunissen. “After battling injuries all year, I knew that I still had more to give. For it to come down to the last event of the season and finish the year off with a win of the World Championships and to clinch the Nautique Wake Series and the Wakeboard World Series meant a lot. It’s been one of the most rewarding wins of my career!”
“What an exciting way to cap off an incredible season!” said Nautique President Greg Meloon. “Watching all of the best athletes in the world ride behind the G23 here in Portugal was amazing to witness. It was also a great weekend for Team Nautique, with Cory and Zahra taking home World and overall series titles.
