Official WSIA Press Release:
Orlando, FL (November 3, 2020) - During the September meetings of the Water Sports Industry Association (WSIA), the board of directors unanimously approved the election of Robert Oswell to president.
On a mission to promote and protect active water sports, this non-profit trade association was formed in 1982 and has achieved significant growth during the last six years under the guidance of former president, John Archer. During this time, WSIA saw a membership increase of 36 percent (320 to 435). More importantly, WSIA has been blessed to be guided by such strong industry leaders, who willingly donate their time to this cause through an unpaid position.
“The growth, value, and impact of the WSIA over the last ten years cannot be overstated,” Archer said. “What started as a small group of manufacturers looking for some collective advice has turned into an organization that truly has a national voice in promoting and protecting the water sports industry.”
Archer also feels like he has left the WSIA in great hands. “Throughout the years, Robert Oswell identified himself as a great candidate for this role through his perennial support of WSIA and its initiatives. He is a forward-thinking, innovative leader who works in the best interest of all brands and participants on the water.”
Residing in Merritt Island, Florida, Oswell is a short drive away from WSIA headquarters and is already making a strong impact with his industry awareness and fresh perspective. “I have always admired the WSIA team and the amazing work they do to promote and protect water sports. I’ve had the opportunity to participate as a member at the annual Summit and Surf Expo meetings, surrounded by passionate people that share a vision for growth and being selected to serve as President of the WSIA is a true honor,” Oswell said. “Now that I’m analyzing the internal operations, I’m very impressed with the efficiency of this tight-knit staff composed of industry experts. New initiatives are already underway to help promote and protect the vitality of our activities for many years to come.”
Other elections to officer positions were CJ Vlahovich (Vice President), Wayne Wilson (Treasurer) and James Vaught (Secretary). Oswell was also appointed as a new board member of WSIA and can be reached at robert@roswellglobal.com.
