I see, I am under similar law as MHayes so there have been times when my dog and my mirror keep me legal. Couple years before Johnny Law is off your back.

That is a nice thing about being in Georgia. If I had to round up 2 other people to go boarding all the time, I would be on the lake a lot less often.

I know in some states, you have to use the rider down flag as well (or whatever it is officially called).

Not true. In CA, the observer must be 12 years or older. BKH

Perfect, that means I am only four years away from being legal rather than five.

Is it 12 for the life vest law as well in CA?

Nine years seems like a long time, but it'll be gone before you know it. It's amazing how much faster life flies by once you have kids. Plus, you're on the water all the time so you'll always be able to pull your "old bones" behind the boat...it may be on a tube, but you'll still be behind the boat...haha.

Really did not intend to hijack familytoy's thread.

CA law requires children under the age of 12 to wear a coast guard approved life jacket while under way on vessels of 26 feet or less. However, be careful, other local ordinances may apply. For instance, Sacramento passed a law 14 months ago that requires life jackets on all children under age 13 on any public water way within city limits, whether on a boat or not. Parents can face a misdemeanor for violation. I am not sure if that ordinance has been overturned in the last 14 months. BKH

                    Yeah, sorry about the hijack.

That is an interesting ordinance Sacramento passed. Is that within CITY or COUNTY limits? I know you're a few years out, but would it affect you in Disco Bay?

Only if I take my kid up to Sacramento  Sacramento had a rash of drownings along the American River so, politicians, being politicians, decided to pass a law that said all kids under 13 had to wear lifejackets in public waterways. At the time, the County of Sacramento passed a similar ordinance. Again, I don't know if it was repealed. I work in Sacramento, but don't often boat or swim there. I do recall one story that volunteers were actually on one of the beaches giving away free life jackets and someone drowned while not wearing one. Makes you wonder. BKH
