    San polish

Hi all have started wet sanding and polishing my boat to bring the colour back as the black had faded quite a lot.
I am really pleased with how it has turned out do far. Still lots to do though.
Will take a pic of the other side so you can see how it looked before the work.

Been a while since I started this but didn't get much chance with our British weather. Last Couple of days I have been sanding and polishing my boat. Started with 500 grit then 800 & finished with 1200.
Then I used some paste (cant remember its name) and buffed it all over.
Finally waxed it and I'm really pleased with the outcome.
She looks shiny and new again.
Definitely worth an aching arm. Lol

This was how it looked before I started. A bit rough from sitting next to the dock.

    After the sanding

Finally after the buffing and polishing.

This could be a dumb question, but I just started wetsanding my boat and am wondering what the proper method is? With wood, you sand with the grain of course. With fiberglass, do you just sand back and forth in one direction, or can you orbital sand? I've just been going back and forth, since I don't know any better yet. So far it's working, although I started with 1500, being nervous about it. Going to pick up some heavier grit tomorrow.

I sanded mine all by hand in a circular motion. I'm not sure to be honest if that's the correct way but this is my 3rd boat I have sanded now and have always ended up with great results.
My 210 is now looking like New.
It's hard work but definitely worth it for the end result.
I went as much as 500 grit because I had some deep scratches from the dock. If your gelcoat is not that bad then 1200 is fine to clean it up but you will need to polish it after with some compound paste etc.

          Good luck

I just did a small section of my boat with 600, then 1,500, polish, and MG Flagship. It looks brand new!!

In this process on my Martinique restore right now. The condition of the gel will determine what grit you will want to start wetsanding with, sanding until you have a consistent finish means you have gone down enough, on mine most of the deck needed 400 or 600, you then want to work your way up from there in increments of 200, working in different directions as much as possible, finishing the wetsanding stage with 1000 grit. After that buff with 3M products, super duty compound which = 1200, then perfect it which = 1500, then finesse it II which = 2000 finishing up with your favorite wax.
Be careful on all edges or high points, the first cut is the hardest, all that follow are much smoother and as mr miagi says, use both hands and change it up so you are working all your muscles!
