Malibu Owner with a 1998 Ski Nautique

This is not my family's first inboard but it is our first first Nautique. We also have a 2004 Malibu Wakesetter VLX. The Nautique has 400 hours on it and is in good condition. The hull is in great shape minus some scratches on the very bottom and the interior will look much better with a cleaning and possibly a little vinyl work. Overall we feel we got the boat for a really good price and are happy with it after spending a little time on the water with it this past weekend!

And a few of the Malibu

Great looking SN! That's still one of the greatest slalom hulls of all time.

Nice looking boats. What is the story behind the tall pylon on those era Nautique's? Jamie

Thanks! We are looking forward to doing some skiing behind it. We also need to pick up a boom for some footin'!

Thank you! I"m not sure why it is taller. I would love to hear an explanation as well!

The extended pylon is a factory option, there is a slot at the standard height for slalom. The added height is a great feature and as a bonus it holds up the cover preventing water pooling as well.

The pylons are a pretty simple swap if you want to change them out.

I am pretty sure that the intended purpose of the extended pylon is for show skiing. Mainly skiing around completely around the boat. That way the rope is above the windshield and over the drivers head. Don't quote me on that though.

Unfortunately most (all) boat makers do nothing from the factory for the purpose of show skiing. I don't believe they made the taller pylon for ATB.

The tall pylon was most likely introduced for the early "wakeboard" boats along with 3 event. They used them to get the tow point higher for WB and Trick skiing.

My thought on the taller pylon, it was used on the Barefoot Nautiques, before even the skurfer was made. It was called the barefoot pylon. Then Correct Craft discovered a higher rope attaching point helped wakeboarding, and suddenly the barefoot pylon became the "Air" pylon, and then Correct Craft introduced the wakeboard tower.
