    1982 SN 2001

I am a newbie to this forum and boat owning so please excuse my stupid questions ovet the next several months.
I purchased my first nautique this summer couldnt be happier except for last night when the starter went out. But at least we were at the dock getting ready to load it. These pictures are the from when I bought it, not great but wanted to show it off.

Very nice man! For future refrence... If you crank on the starter for more than 10 seconds at a time, you are supposto wait about 30 min for them to cool off. Sometimes you can burn them up cranking and cranking.

It has always started right of the bat. I have never cranked it more than 2 or 3 seconds. When you crank it it just makes a really fast clicking noise.

Thanks for the compliments on the interior. It was that way when I bought it. It was done pretty well too.

The clicking could be a dead batt.

I dont think that is it but I will have it tested before I buy a new starter. I mean it worked all evening without a problem. Never hesitated to start or acted funny. Like I said in my first post I am new to owning a boat thanks for all of the advise.

Boat looks great!!!! Congrats! Batteries give zero warning when they develop a dead short in a cell. Easier to replace if that's what it is. Good Luck! Mike

Well I am glad that I posted this. i would not of even checked that but I will do that first thing now. The thing is that the starter clicks really fast like it is trying but wont engage. I dont know.

ours went out this weekend on our 83, but your 82 looks brand new compared to ours! the interior looks incredible! i am definitely going to keep pics of your boat in my swipe file for ideas for when we redo ours!
we ended up getting a battery from sears after checking out boaters world and bass pro shop. boaters world was telling us about a new gel battery but then the guys at bass pro told us it is a dog, they leak and that they were bad news. so we reverted to sears, where we bought the land cruiser a battery the day before, but the volvo battery has to come from volvo. figures. anyone want to buy a volvo??? the interior was done by a shop. They did a great job I just wish that they would have used a little better foam in the drives seat. It is so soft that after you sit in it for a while you sink to the bottom of it. It isnt to bad but if iwere to redo it i would definetly put a heavier pad in the seat.

oooh! good point! we have a down-filled couch and i'm always looking for ideas to make things more comfortable, but i think my hubby would get a little annoyed to have the boat seat up his butt since he is the one who drives it the most. i will definitely keep this in mind!

Well I had the battery checked and it was fine. I am going to take the alt off and have it checked next. I am thinking that is what it is. Now my question is. Should I buy a new alt at a parts store, have mine rebuilt, or go to a boat shop to get it? I am leaning toward having mine rebuilt because of cost and I know everything on it lines up for my boat.

What makes you think your alternator is bad?
