I would pay a lot of money to have the amount of knowledge you do about boats. I have a 2001 SAN as well and wouldn’t even attempt 10% of what you have done simply because of my inexperience. Amazing job!

The decision to put 650s in the rear lockers instead of 400s was much needed! I filled the 650s up to about 550 or so and that made all the difference in the world getting that extra 300lbs in the rear. If anyone is questioning whether the ballast upgrade is worth it or not...just bite the bullet and do it. The time it saves is unreal. Just last night I didn’t even put the boat on the lake till 6pm which is rare because it used to take 30 minutes before I was able to ride and 30 minutes afterwards before it was ready for the trailer. Now it’s literally 5 minutes before and 5 minutes after. I haven’t put a timer on it yet, but I would actually bet it’s closer to 3 or 4 minutes.
What size bag did you put in the ski locker? Do you have the dimensions of the bags? Does your starboard locker bag overlap your batteries? Mine does at the moment and I don’t really like it. I’d like to revise my setup.

Honestly I learned a lot from spending countless hours on this forum. People here have been extremely helpful and I like to do anything I can to help people out as well. That’s the main reason for threads like this to show others how we went about doing ours and give them ideas and encouragement. Other knowledge I’ve gained from just tearing into things and learning as I go.

You know now that you ask me that exact question...I started second guessing my original thought. I have for some reason always thought that the ski locker bag was 580 lbs but upon further investigation, it’s actually 370 lbs. You can get on wakemakers and see dimensions of Fly High 370 and the Sumo 650s. As far as the 650s in the rear lockers, the port side fits absolutely perfect. The starboard side is a bit cramped as I have all 3 of my pumps on that side and one battery in the front of that locker (the other is under passenger dash). Even though starboard side is cramped, I have yet to have any issues in the 3 times I’ve been out. I don’t fill the 650s all the way up. I fill them about 3/4 of the way because I have 600 lbs of lead in the boat also. The last time I was out...I had 3 people in the boat and rear sacks filled up about 7/8 of the way and that was about all I would want in weight. It was getting a bit tight on starboard side, but still no issues. I’d definitely recommend doing the same setup I have.

Back at it again with my yearly project. This one not so big but I try to do at least one thing each off season. I am having the tower and windshield sandblasted and powder coated. Does it need it? Not really, but I do have a reason! I bought a set of 4 flight clips that I planned on powder coating black to match the tower. And of course I can’t have racks that look better than the tower. And if I’m doing the tower it will make my windshield look bad. I sound like I’m trying to convince the wife right? Ha luckily that’s not an issue. Anyways here are a some pics of the progress.
Before I started tearing things apart Speakers and racks are gone Upper portion of tower taken off Base and windshield off
going to have the windshield tinted again while it’s out of the frame. No more slivers of clear around the edges! I’ve already dropped my tower of to a local fabricator to repair the burst that happened before I bought the boat. Apparently water got in the tower and froze. The fabricator will also be welding all holes from old bimini mounts shut and grinding to a smooth finish.

Tim, I can tell that you overly enjoy tearing things apart. It almost seems like you enjoy tearing apart more than putting back together? Ha ha yes I do enjoying tearing things apart. I like to see how it’s all put together. Though I’ll just take your word for it on how things looks below the deck. Luckily you’ve supplied us with enough pictures I’m not curious anymore! I have been waiting very patiently to see some progress pics from you. Now that I’ve got you, I know you didn’t fall off a cliff or anything. Could this be the year that ole girl sees the water???

Windshield has been tinted again and all frame pieces have been sand blasted and power coated.

These are 4 of the flight clips I purchased. Stripping them down and going to have them sand blasted and powder coated to match the tower.

Got some new decals for the windshield and stainless cup holders
Tower being repaired. Can’t believe how well the split looks after some welding and grinding
                          Freshly sandblasted
Did a coat of primer and then sanded in order to get a slinky smooth finish. Aluminum was a little beat up after 20 years.
Just out of the oven after powder coat

Got the tower back on the boat. Wires run inside the tower.
Got my flight clips blasted and powder coated. Topped it off with some custom SeaDek pads from Dek Designs. They have this template on file now if anyone is interested.
Bought some tubing and bungees from Menards. They seem to work fine right now. Not bad for $10.

Looks amazing!!! My homemade bungees have lasted 2 years with no signs of stretching.

You my friend have good taste! Those clips turned out very nice and the windshield/tower powder coating came out beautiful. It’s amazing how the little details really make the overall product look sharp. For my next project, I’m going to start with my dash because I keep changing my mind on the color combo for the interior redo. I ordered up my stargazer and all new faria gauges. I’ll also be running a new ground in attempts to get rid of the low voltage beep.

Keep up the the good work!
