96 SN 176 still getting it done.....

Just got back from skiing today and I swear this boat runs so good and does everything I need it to do. Would push button start and late model fuel injection be better? Well yes...but this baby shows me every time I take it out why I need to keep it and use my money elsewhere.

I did put some new wheels and tires on it to bring the rolling package up to date.

The trailer is in need of sanding down and painting and new lighting which I am n the process of now. Click image for larger version

Has the rudder been updated?? If not spend a few bucks there, money well spent.

Do you have the original stainless rudder? Changing to an 11-A tabbed rudder makes a huge improvement, believe the port needs to be changed as well. Supposedly that boat turned out too good and CC used that rudder to actually de-tune it so it was not better then their flagship Ski Nautique.

Where did you purchase the tire/ wheel from? What size rim and tire?

I didn't buy the boat new but the rudder looks bronze. Come to think of it I have never seen a stainless rudder.

What is this 11-A tabbed rudder?

Ok I did some research. OMG, I saw a picture of the original stainless handmade rudder! Why would CC ever put that garbage on a boat? It looks like I made it in my garage.

Anyway, someone obviously upgraded to the 11A rudder. I found this picture https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7...0/P1010095.JPG

Thanks for sharing the pic of that rudder, I've never seen it either... Very primitive looking for sure! Can't believe they actually sold boats with that on there.

Post a pic of your rudder, bronze does not necessarily mean it's a tabbed 11A

Do some reading, really interesting info on the 176!!

That doesn't mean they had to put a homemade shadetree looking hack job of a rudder on it though. That things looks like something homemade.

As promised here are the rudder pics. Not tabbed but I was wondering if this was the "11-A" rudder. I guess one of the previous owners changed it. I also notice that the starboard side has been ground down.

Believe that is the factory original 176 rudder, some got what you have and some the stainless version, neither is as deep as the 11-A, look at the arc on the aft section of your rudder compared to the 11-A.
The ground edge on your rudder was done to adjust the loading of the rudder, how much force it requires to keep the boat going in a straight line. The tab of a tabbed rudder accomplishes the same thing, you adjust/turn the tab to adjust rudder loading.
Does your boat have a GT-40?
