2001 Super Sport restoration

Sorry for all these questions but you have some solutions here that I know a few of us have been trying to figure out for some time. That being the bigger full size 6.5" speaker mounted in that speaker pod location in the plastic kick panel. Looking at the pic did you cut the end of that plastic speaker pod off to get some of the taper out of it until the hole is big enough to fit the pvc adapter into it? I see the speaker is screwed into the pvc adapter but how is the adapter secured to the pod there in that plastic panel, I don't see any screws in the pic?

the other challenge some of us have had is recovering the dash and the plastic throttle panel? Getting one piece of vinyl to make those tight corners and deep recessed areas seems next to impossible and it seems as though the factory used Unbacked vinyl which would allow for a ton of stretch needed to make those corners. The problem being it's impossible to find unbacked vinyl. Your seams seem to (haha, seams seem) be the solution but could you tell us exactly what kind of vinyl you used on the dash and pod kick panel? Three way stretch, unbacked, ect.??? And how did you apply it? Vacuum bagged and glued?

Last question: how did you finish the side wall carpet where it meet the floor of the hull? Looks like you wrapped the edge of the carpet around a flat piece then secured the flat piece to the bottom edge of the hull floor? How did you attach it? I'm trying to figure out how I should best transition the side wall carpet into sea deck that I may have for the hull floor. Really pumped to finally see solutions to these isssues! Thanks.

The speaker adapter on the side pod was screwed directly to the existing plastic ring after the vinyl was stapled off. I found a pic of that for you. The sizing of the existing ring was a perfect fit. Having one of those speakers pointing right at you when driving, is loud.

Re-upholstering the plastic helm parts wasn't easy. It is the same vinyl that was used on the rest of the interior and it has a felt backing on it. So at least the stretch is consistent. I tailored seams where required and the rest was stretched to fit. 3 pieces cut and sewn to fit for each pod, then glued on. Yeah that speaker hole was fun, see pic. If you are pretty handy with upholstery i'd share my technique, but I have lots of experience and access to commercial sewing machines. If you don't have the right tools i would recommend seeing if you can find somebody to redo it. Shouldn't be hard to find a vac former but I wanted them to match the rest of the upholstery and the twin needle detail is nice.

The carpet on the hull sides was just cut at the floor. The vinyl mat has the trim sewn around it and ended up about 1/4 thick, enough to cover raw edge of the carpet. If I needed to finish that edge for seadek I would bind the carpet along the bottom edge with a vinyl strip or have it overlocked. Of course you would need to template that edge and have it done before gluing the carpet back in.

I'm in Mccormick so i'll put my boat in over there. Plus its pretty quiet and sheltered so always good water. I hang out with friends at Keg Creek, Modoc and Wildwood. What color is your boat? I've seen a few of those around at the end of summer.

My boat is navy blue with thermal yellow accent stripe.

I've been looking to hopefully buy lake property. Just can't find the right property. I looked at a place in McCormick a couple weeks ago on Barksdale Ferry Rd. I don't know that much about that part of the lake other than its much quieter than Wildwood/Keg Creek.

Where did you get the color code for the ivory white gel coat? I have a gouge I want to repair and can't find the color options for 2001.

My Air Nautique is exactly the same color. I have a gouge on the keel i wanted to repair. Neutral was what I thought.
