Today was upholstery clean-up day.

Certain panels cleaned up like new! Others didn't come back as well.

Oddly, the course-grain vinyl is the hardest to clean. I will have to go back and hit those panels again with something a little stronger than my normal Spray Nine Marine. I am still confident that they will all clean up though.

I may have to replace a few seat bases. Those are the ones that are really stained, especially the observer's seat base. I have one more trick up my sleeve though before I give up on them. If I do have to replace them, at least those are the easiest pieces to have recovered.

Overall, I am very happy with how this first pass went.

Like I said above, the observer's seat base will likely have to be replaced, but the rest cleaned up pretty nicely!

I am continuously amazed by marine vinyl. Stuff lives a hard life yet can survive for 20 years....

I try to remember this when I have to spend $$$ to replace skins ....

Blows my mind how this can happen to such a relatively new and nice boat. I’d give magic erasers a shot, I know they are technically an abrasive but that might be better than having to replace the skins.

Normally I would never try this, but on the seat bases that are likely going to be reskinned anyway I plan to try Magic Erasers, and if that doesn't work, I may try 25/75 bleach and Spray Nine Marine. I have used the light bleach solution before with success.

Again, I do NOT recommend Magic Erasers or the bleach solution as an every-day cleaning plan. I am only trying them because these skins are going in the trash anyway if these things don't work.

Agreed, the beach solution is NOT an everyday cleaner. But, on tough stains like that - I have brought back some pretty bad stuff in the past... Just have to flush the seats and seams especially with copious amounts of fresh water several times. After thoroughly dried, I have massaged some maguires leather conditioner into them and they were like new and remained that way for a long time.. Good luck! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Before you try Magic Erasers, experiment with different brushes. Sometimes one brush's different stiffness and thickness of bristles get into places others don't. For example, I've a $20 Chemical Guys horse hair brush that cleans stuff that my microfibers and other brushes don't. I've also a few drill attachments of different stiffness that I try when I think that elbow grease is the solution.

Interesting conversation on magic erasers....never knew the consensus was to avoid or use as last option.

Yeah, they are considered an abrasive, and can easily remove the protective coating on the vinyl.

Well isn't that something..OK then...I'll put any magic eraser use on hold for upholstery work (not that I was using them for that but I have few in the detail kit).

g_force made a suggestion above on different brushes and I agree that helps.

I own one of the porter cable polishers and I did pickup a few different brushes from autogeek.net for cleaning. For upholstery, I'll stick to the softer brushes and professional vinyl cleaner I think. The different brushes and the ability to adjust the elbow grease via polisher speed and pressure seem like a better fit.

Found what I expect to be a very nice matching trailer for this boat today.

This is a 2021 Malibu trailer, built for an M220. The length and width will be within an inch of perfect, and it will certainly have the capacity for a 230 (trailer rated at over 8,000 pounds capacity). I will need to fix a couple of the trailer bunks, but that'll be easy, and the price was right! And it is white, so the color will match the boat well.

Heading down to Atlanta to pick this thing up soon!
